  2. 2. What Is It??In meteorology, a cyclone is an area of closed, circular fluid motion rotating in the same direction as the Earth. This is usually characterized by inward spiralling winds that rotate counter clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere of the Earth. Most large-scale cyclonic circulations are cantered on areas of low atmospheric pressure.
  3. 3. Naming Of An CycloneCyclones derive their names through a systematicprocedure laid down by the World MeteorologicalOrganization (WMO) United Nations Economic and Social Commissionfor Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).India Meteorological Department (IMD).National disaster management authority (NMDA)Eight north Indian Ocean countries - Bangladesh,India, the Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, SriLanka and Thailand - have prepared a list of 64names.
  4. 4. How It Is Formed?? Tropical cyclones are "warm core" storm systems, powered by enthalpy of condensation of high moisture air, which condense at higher altitudes. These are initiated due to a nearby upper trough, which after the formation of the initial disturbance, depend on a storm- relative upper level high to maintain and increase their strength. Thus tropical cyclone formation can be visualized as gigantic vertical heat engines powered by Earths gravity and rotation.
  5. 5. Major Tropical Cyclone Disasters during the past 270 Years in terms of Human Loss

  7. 7. Tip1 Precautions Of CycloneStrong cyclone happened when you were at home, and it is necessary for you to stay awayfrom doors, windows and houses outside the walls. The safest place are underground andsemi – basement. In addition, you had better promptly cut off power supply.Tip2If powerful cyclone happened, you were happened to do something at outside. You have tofind a nearest low – lying land volts on the ground, but you should stay away from trees, poles so as not to be smashed, and electric shock.Tip3Generally speaking, early warning and timely evacuation can largely reduce the lossresulted from cyclones. It is extremely important to enhance prevention technology topredict the coming of the cyclone beforehand.Tip4Building more anti – cyclone buildings and houses to defend cyclones’ attack is mosturgent thing for costal countries where cyclones often happened. It is reported that morecasualty and property loss are resulted from unstable houses and buildings.
