Blueprint For A Basic Website Blueprint For A Basic Website Presentation Transcript

  • Blueprint for a Basic Website
    • For every website there are 2 blueprints or plans
    • 1. The basic layout for the pages that visitors who come to the site will see
    • 2.The directory layout that only the web browser and webmasters will see
  • The Web Page Includes
    • A header
    • Navigation
    • An area for text, images and data
    • A footer that includes secondary navigation, copyright information etc. as you will see on the next slide
  • Basic Page Layout
    • Page layout is not set in concrete however most people who use the Internet expect to find navigation either on the left or just under the header
    • Web pages should be easy – especially pages for commercial and e-commerce sites so keep the layout simple and carry it across all pages
    • Design for a 12 year old and most people will be able to find their way around your website
  • Behind the Scenes
    • While visitors to a website see the page layout the web browsers see something quite different and to have a standard blueprint here is very important
    • A standard layout means that any experienced webmaster can work on the site without wasting time trying to find where the site’s elements are located.
  • Blueprint for a Basic Site
    • HTML pages reside in the root folder along with the .htaccess file, the XML site map and the robots.txt file
    • Images are placed in an image folder
    • Large javascript files are placed in their own folder
  • Basic File Structure
