North Media Center January Highlights and Statistics
Monthly Highlights -- Collaborative Lessons <ul><li>Students in Mr. Wilson’s and Mrs. Stickle’s Environmental Science classes created a Wikispace page with information about their biome. The classes will then view their peers’ pages to learn and study from during the unit. </li></ul><ul><li>Many 12th grade English classes are utilizing the online notecard and dropbox tool in Noodletools. This process allows Mrs. Stout to provide formative assessment to students during the research process. </li></ul><ul><li>Mrs. Barca’s French III class created museum walking tours of an Impressionist painter using Voicethread. </li></ul><ul><li>Students in Mr. Ritter and Mrs. Smith’s US History I explored current events addressing citizen rights and the amendments. They curated their topics using Scoop.it </li></ul>
Monthly Highlights --Events in the Media Center <ul><li>The Media Center hosted the 2 nd annual Apples to Apples holiday tournament. Students enjoyed some friendly competition and holiday snacks after school on December 21 st . </li></ul><ul><li>The book club met twice in December to discuss Lauren Oliver’s best selling novel, Before I Fall. The book club has seen a significant increase in underclassman attendance. </li></ul>
Monthly Highlights --Professional Development <ul><li>Mrs. Stout attended the New Jersey Association of School Librarians conference on December 2 nd and 3 rd . She plans to utilize the resources shared in the e-reader session to pilot a Nook Simple Touch circulation program in the Media Center. </li></ul><ul><li>Media Specialists and English teachers at Hunterdon Central Regional shared their model for a semester long inquiry based unit on British literature. Mrs. Stout is investigating implementing a similar unit in the Media Center for the second semester. </li></ul>
