  • LifeSize Desktop is a standalone desktop client that allows you to see incredible detail and motion handling with 720p30 video at only 1Mbps. LifeSize Desktop enables the LifeSize Experience you’ve come to realize at the office – HD quality, Superior Bandwidth Utilization, and Flexibility – and allows you to participate in HD video calls from the convenience of your computer. LifeSize desktop offers unmatched performance and ease of use, with a similar LifeSize user experience as our room based products. At only a fraction of the price of server, or bridge based desktop clients, LifeSize Desktop makes HD video quality accessible to all businesses. The superior quality of experience is seen in all aspects of the product, including its clear and detailed video, widescreen 16:9 video that is formatted for HD screens, and very efficient CPU usage. LifeSize Desktop is also highly flexible as it supports popular third party webcams for quick, simple deployments.
  • LifeSize Desktop extends the LifeSize experience to the desktop with a familiar and intuitive icon based interface that is easy to use. Deploying LifeSize Desktop in an organization can be done quickly and easily since no server infrastructure is required. LifeSize Desktop offers the flexibility to participate in video calls from anywhere there is access to the internet – in a home office, an airport, or a hotel Since LifeSize Desktop is based on the SIP protocol standard, and runs securely behind a corporate firewall. Finally, low CPU utilization enables HD video communications even with multiple applications running
  • LifeSize desktop is capable of placing and receiving calls with other standards based SIP endpoints and bridges. However, please pay careful attention to this slide, as there are important network considerations regarding firewalls, that will determine whether or not calls will successfully connect. When using LifeSize Desktop to connect to another endpoint on the same network, there are no firewalls so the call will connect successfully. When using LifeSize Desktop to place or receive calls across different networks, it will be necessary to traverse a firewall. LifeSize supports firewall traversal in two scenarios. The first supported scenario is using a company’s corporate VPN network. Since logging into a corporate VPN network tunnels your traffic and virtually places your machine on the same network as the corporate network, calls will not have to traverse a firewall. Once connected to VPN it will be possible to call other endpoints that are on the same network that you have connected to through VPN. Using VPN to place video calls is supported in LifeSize Desktop, however it is necessary for the user to properly configure the VPN settings in the Management Center the first time they set up the program. The second supported scenario is using a LifeSize Transit server for Firewall traversal. This method provides the user with seamless Firewall traversal and is the preferred method of connecting when a LifeSize desktop user is at home or on the road. For users that travel frequently, or have a need to call outside the corporate network, it is recommended that a Transit server is used to ensure that calls connect successfully, consistently, and independent of where the call is placed from.
