Bacteria can be found everywhere and come in different shapes and sizes. They are single-celled organisms that use different processes like respiration and photosynthesis to obtain energy. Bacteria can reproduce through asexual binary fission and be either helpful or harmful to humans. While some bacteria assist with digestion or produce antibiotics, other pathogenic bacteria can cause diseases if they infect the body. Pasteurization helps kill harmful bacteria by heating food to high temperatures.
