Proposal Steven Holl with Hargreaves Associates and HNTB engineering firm Plan focused on ecologically beneficial materials Initially wanted small section to be opened so the rest would follow Create a loop that would connect to Hudson River Park by a series of pedestrian bridges above West St. Move flower market down to the area so nice smells would fill the air along the bridges Place of quiet reflection “A suspended green valley in the Manhattan Alps” Planned to be totally accessible to the public

Focus on Natural Aspects  Accentuate nature  Show contrast between the Highline and surrounding urban areas and communities  Plan to revamp Highline, to increase amount of visitors while minimizing traffic problems • Very different landscape the rest of the city • Natural space in a very commercial area
