Turner and constructed in 1919, the Sterling started as a manufacturing plant for the Northern Aluminum Company which produced kitchen utensils. In 1925, the company was renamed the “Aluminum Company of Canada” and eventually became Alcan. During the Second World War, the Sterling building became a strategic centre for the production of materials to support the Allies in Europe. The most recent chapter of the Sterling’s history was its stint as a production site for Tower Automotive.
