Challenge summary A leading eCommerce business implements an efficient business intelligence (BI) solution to support operational and strategic management with information that is relevant for decision-making. Key points As Europe's largest fashion eCommerce service provider, the company has the industry’s most comprehensive collection of customer data Positioning of BI is one of the key strategic elements for its business customers A reliable “single point of truth” with analytical information on all clients made available for management Provision of a customer-centric view and user- centric BI development The challenge Steria’s client is a leading fashion eCommerce expert and exclusive partner to famous brands. Its management recognised that business intelligence was critical to success. The ability to make the right decisions based on the flood of information coming into the business quickly and cost effectively was a strategic imperative. The business wanted an efficient BI solution that offered more than traditional reports. As part of its BI journey, the company sought to offer BI services in the form of management dashboards, self-service BI and advanced analytics to its business customers. For this the company required a BI solution that processed large data volumes reliably at high quality with functions that went significantly beyond standard and ad-hoc reporting. Its aim was to create a joint data warehouse for all internal and external information recipients while respecting all aspects of data privacy. The reliable logical separation of clients' data is therefore one of the central requirements. Our solution With one of Europe’s largest business intelligence capabilities, Steria was given responsibility for the design and implementation of the new BI solution. In addition to classical standard reports in the common corporate format, Steria’s solution includes: The offer of extensive analysis options in a self- service environment. The common basis for all analyses is consistent, detailed data records; Data provided in near real-time is available for both ad-hoc analyses and measuring points for SLA controlling. This increases user motivation to give up old isolated applications and switch to the central BI solution; The self-service BI offering enables users to flexibly and independently satisfy their individual information needs and takes the pressure off the BI development team.

A joint team of client employees and Steria consultants took an agile approach as they worked together to implement the structure of the data warehouse. This ensured it was suitable for the fashion market, which is characterised by dynamic and regional differences. This required extreme flexibility in the operational eCommerce applications and planning systems. As part of this agile project approach, the company’s employees were successively trained in the use of modern BI tools and the SCRUM project methodology. This enabled a joint team spirit to be created as quickly as possible. The company’s Director of Business Intelligence comments: “We are extending our range of analysis massively with the new BI solution and this offers significant added value compared to our competitors.” Results and benefits Steria’s client is benefiting from BI software that provides its management with solid facts and forecasts. The analyses are also aimed at an extended group of users, not just specialists. The use cases go beyond the core processes and include a wide range of data sources. The company is now able to create homogeneous models and benchmarks on the basis of anonymous data for its business customers. The eCommerce service provider and its own clients benefit from the following advantages as a result of the new BI offering: Standardised information management for all clients; Common data base model and key performance indicators for all clients; Self-service analysis of near real-time data records; Comprehensive, detailed data from internal and external sources. The Director of Business Intelligence says: “We are reducing our development and operating expenses through standardisation on the one hand and flexibility as part of the agile BI development on the other.” Steria Mummert Consulting GmbH Hans-Henny-Jahnn-Weg 29, 22085 Hamburg Tel: +49 (0) 40 22703-0 Call to action / for more information please contact Volker Oßendoth / Volker.Ossendoth@steria-mummert.de Contact www.steria.com About Steria With 20,000 people across 16 countries, Steria delivers end-to-end IT-enabled business services that help private and public organisations meet today’s complex business challenges.
