Sometimes you wish you could fly the coop and spend a day in someone else’s shoes. Maybe one of
those ladies who spends Wednesday afternoons at the spa and weekends at her wine country
home.
Dylan Shoes, a tiny shop where you might just find ruby red slippers, may help you take flight
when it opens its doors on Thursday.
Although the footwear is the real draw, the backdrop is as impressive: Jonathan Adler furniture
mixed with Swallowtail accents, baroque pinstripe wallpaper, antlers with pearls draping down,
and funky light fixtures set an impressive scene.
What’s to be had at Dylan? Stylish siren Stephanie Unger is at the helm (those Vintage 415 kids
have got her back), and her selection is a stellar one: Chloé, Proenza Schouler, Loeffler Randall,
Marc Jacobs Collection, Stella McCartney, Tara Subkoff for Easy Spirit, Keds — and that’s just the
tip of the iceberg.
So even if you can’t pad around your fancy country house, you can at least strut around town in
style.

The co-owners said they've wanted to carry clothes for guys since they opened in 2004, and this spring the
first racks finally were rolled out at the Chestnut Street store.
"We've been asked by guys to stock clothing for them practically since day one," said Pollan, who was
wearing a low-V-neck black-and-white minidress with a drawstring waist and mini-Peter Pan collar by
Alexander Wang. Unger was in a black-and-white baby-doll dress by Dallin Chase. Both Chase and Wang
(who grew up here) are up-and-coming New York designers, and both their lines are in the store.
Now guys can find designer jeans, striped T-shirts, sheer sweaters and button-down shirts. "We call it
'West Coast cool,' " Unger said. The store will stock colorful striped shirts by Paul Smith; low-rise Acne
jeans; button-down shirts, fine-gauge T-shirts and cashmere sweaters by Wang; soft thermals from Ever;
Superfine jeans; and chinos and long-sleeved T-shirts from the new Jill Stuart menswear line. "We're
showing lots of layering looks for guys this season," Unger said.
For the girls, there are "lots and lots of dresses," Pollan said. "It's a very feminine season with lots of color;
it's kind of an East Coast look, a little bit preppy, but still very clean."
On the runway there were plaid minis by Steven Alan, colorful washed silk dresses by Alice Ritter, flirty
frocks by Jill Stuart and Bermuda shorts by Chloé. "Everything is short, A-line or has a '60s feeling. It's all
very influenced by the movie 'Factory Girl,' " Unger said.

geek. "You don't want to look like you're really wearing it," says Stephanie Unger, who owns Dylan's Boutique in
San Francisco.

Try pairing new geek-chic pieces together with your own clothes in a way that makes you happy wearing them.
"What we're tending to do is rip off the designers and show 'I'm here, I'm not going anywhere,' and if this is not how
you envisioned this skirt with this blouse, then just walk on by," says Joshua Estrin, author of "Shut Up! and Listen
to Yourself."
- Wear it confidently
When wearing some of the bolder styles--such as big glasses or grandfather cardigans--it's your confidence level
that will determine whether the outfit flops. Look to Ashton Kutcher's flippant approach to fashion, suggests
