SALARY SURVEY MAINTENANCE ENGINEER - FOOD & DRINKS INDUSTRY North West - November 2012This survey has been constructed based on the data gathered from a sample of North Westcandidates registered with Food Careers Ltd and is a representation of the typical salariespaid to Maintenance Engineers operating within the Food & Drinks Industry for November2012.Number of people surveyed: 412

REVIEW OF THE RESULTSOver 40% of Maintenance Engineers, who live in the North West and work in the Food & DrinksIndustry earn between £30,000 - £34,999 (excluding bonuses and overtime), with just 5% ofengineers achieving basic salaries of £40,000pa or above.The Beverage, Cereal & Snacks, Dairy and Confectionery sectors are the areas whereengineers are more likely to achieve a £40,000 salary. The Dairy sector pays the highestaverage salary, whilst the Meat & Poultry and Fresh Produce (Vegetable/Salads) sectors canpay up to 11% less than Dairy.Based on the current average salary of £31,269pa and that individual’s remain in the position ofMaintenance Engineer throughout their career, the figures show that you are most likely to be atyour earning peak around 45 years of age. Surprisingly, individuals aged 55+ can earn around11% less than the average salary.Our research also highlighted that although the majority of engineers are continuously strivingto achieve higher earnings, 9.5% of the people we surveyed are willing to accept a pay cut ofup to £3,800 per annum for a position with improved hours, commute and more importantly abetter work life balance.Maintenance Engineers living in Merseyside could expect to earn an extra £1,245 per annumcompared to Lancashire based engineers. Also, electrically biased engineer are likely to earnan extra £1,298 per year compared to mechanically biased engineers.
