  • 2. Purpose of this Workshop
    • Learn how to make your organization competitive for grants from our funding sources.
    • Gain insight into the allocation process and criteria used by the Allocation Committee.
    • Make sure you understand all components of the application
    • Learn about the requirements, rules and regulations of each funding source.
  • 3. Available Grants
    • Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund (PAHTF)
    • Critical Needs Housing (CNH)
    • Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG)

  • 4. Eligible Activities, Collectively
    • Shelter
    • Case Management
    • Food, Mass Feeding
    • Home Repair
    • Essential Services
    • Transitional Housing
    • Homeless Prevention
    • Other innovative housing projects
    • Day Care
    • Leveraging federal programs for HMIS and Continuum of Care
  • 5. Review Process
    • The State Homeless Coordinating Committee (SHCC) – Allocation Subcommittee
      • Determines funding priorities & application process
      • Reviews applications
      • Invites certain applicants to share more about programs
      • Provides recommendation to SHCC
    • Approval by SHCC chaired by Lt. Gov. Bell
  • 6. Funding Environment
    • PAHTF has not been slated for cuts this year
    • CNH and ESG funding levels are still TBD
    • Many proposed cuts to other funding sources (e.g. CSBG, FEMA)
    • Stimulus homeless prevention funds still available for 1 more year through HPRP
  • 7.   • 8. FY12 Funding Priorities
    • Focus on re-housing efforts to decrease the necessity of emergency services (also direction of HUD with ESG)
    • Emphasis on permanent housing solutions
    • Emphasis on ending chronic homelessness as part of the State’s 10-year plan
    • Priority given to projects offering case management for chronically homeless persons served in permanent supportive housing
  • 9. How to make your applications competitive
    • Apply for activities related to Allocation Committee’s priorities
    • Demonstrate an integrated service model or coordinated effort
    • Participate in your local Continuum of Care or LHCC
    • Demonstrate an impact in your community – prioritize harder-to-serve populations, spend money
    • Create innovative or adaptive programs
