  • 1. Cloud services overview What services can be offered via „cloud“? IaaS – PaaS – SaaS Cloud pros and cons Who is the cloud good for? Dušan Daniška ADIOS Business Suite
  • 2. What services can be offered via „cloud“? ● Only IT services (hardware, software) ● Three main categories: ● Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) ● Platform as a Service (PaaS) ● Software as a Service (SaaS)
  • 3. Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) ● Provides the computing infrastructure, physical or virtual machines (servers) and other HW resources ● Examples: Amazon EC2, Windows Azure, Rackspace ● The lowest level of „XaaS“ ● You can use IaaS e.g. to run your own virtual server
  • 4. Platform as a service (PaaS) ● Provides computing platforms which typically includes operating system, programming language execution environment, database, web server etc. ● Examples: AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Heroku, Force.com, Google App Engine ● The middle level of „XaaS“ ● You can use PaaS e.g. to build and manage your own rich app more comfortably as in IaaS

Software as a service (SaaS) ● Provides an access to a ready-to-use software. ● You don't have to worry about the installation, setup and running of the application. ● The only required software on your PC is the internet browser ● Examples: Google Apps, Microsoft Office 365, ADIOS Business Suite ● The top level of „XaaS“ ● You can use SaaS e.g. to manage your company or the project
  • 6. Cloud pros and cons ● Pros: ● High and easy scalability ● Low investment costs ● Security patches and backup are maitained by the provider ● The infrastructure is instantly ready to use ● SaaS – the software does not have to be installed ● Cons: ● Strongly dependent on internet connection
  • 7. Who is cloud good for? ● Everyone who does not want to worry about IT and wants to focus on his business
