•In one of the best known passages inthe Bhagavad-Gita, God, as representedby Shri Krishna, is shown as tellingArjuna: “Take refuge in me alone, I willliberate you from all sins, do notgrieve.”•Such a statement can be attributed onlyto God, for only God can absolvehumans of their sins and liberate them. The question is whether Shri Krishnacan do this.
What are the attributes by which werecognize God? He is supreme,Incorporeal, and does not have abody like humans. Since he does nothave a body and is, therefore, notborn like humans, nor a body and is,therefore, not born like humans, norwould he have parents, techers orblood relatives.
•He would also be accepted by all, since there is only one God.•Shri Krishna was born like otherhumans and had biological parentsand relatives. Deities, after all, werehuman beings possessing Divinequalities.
Moreover, mythology tells us ofoccasions when Shri Krishnaworshipped God Shiva (at Gopeshwar, and near Kurukshetra, as Staneshwar). If Shri Krishna himself was God, wherewas the need for him to worshipanyone?
Lastly, Shri Krishna is revered andworshipped only by those followingHindu traditions, and that too by notall of them. People of other faiths donot accept him as God, and, in manycases, do not even know about him.
God comes to this world to liberate thewhole of mankind from bondage to vices, asall human souls are his children. It cannot bethat a deity who is known to, andworshipped by, people of just one faith isGod. Remembering Shri Krishna can inspireus to imbibe his qualities, but it is by nomeans the same as remembering God, theredeemer, the only one who can liberate usfrom our sins.
