  • 2. Christmas 2010 Trend Forecast FLAMANT LAFAYETTE MAISON Every year the Sphere team travels far and wide and compiles research from various sources, including trend-spotting locales and many tradeshows, to put together the annual Christmas trend forecast. We also track past reports to monitor shifts within this category. This year, our trend spotting cities included Paris, New York City and spots around the Hamptons for a unique perspective when compiled with information from Heimtex, Maison et Objet, Ambiente, Christmas World and other TERRAIN tradeshows. © 2009 Sphere Marketing, LLC.
  • 3. With the current state of the economy on everyone’s mind, including both retailers AND the consumer, the big questions are how this affects the shifts for this season. The first main theme that appeared was the idea of turning the house into a haven, a place for serenity, comfort and escape from an otherwise stressful environment. At no other time is the home more important as a haven than during the holiday season. Friends and family share in these comforting spaces together. Products which have soft textures, create cozy environments, a sense of history, and hand-crafted/personalized touches are key to this theme. Soft, cozy fabrics and textures (Wisteria, left) WISTERIA Distressed wood and aged mercury glass give a sense of age (Wisteria, right), while silver ornaments (Conran, above left) give the illusion of weathering and turning into a Crochet and pom-pons add a handcrafted ATTIC 24 softer gold with age. touch (Attic 24, above and right). © 2009 Sphere Marketing, LLC.
  • 4. NYA NORDISKA Sophisticated shades of green update classic Christmas green (JAB, top left, Vivant, below, Beatrice Laval, below left.) ALEXANDER THURPALT The other main overall theme for Christmas of 2010 is the idea of Tradition with a Twist. While consumers may be wary to do a complete overhaul of their holiday décor during these economic times, they move towards adding to an existing collection. Many of the themes from 2009 (soft glamour, natural elements, traditional luxury) are continuing on through 2010 – but with new palettes and small additions to update the look. Color is key here, with beautiful hues really making a strong statement in all of the trends. Adding a beautiful new color to a pre-existing collection may be exactly what it takes to make a holiday home feel updated. Color also brings cheerfulness into a home, at a time when it couldn’t be needed more. © 2009 Sphere Marketing, LLC.
