  2. 2. the preterite <ul><li>Past action tense – what happened </li></ul><ul><li>Not used to describe people, or set scenes </li></ul><ul><li>Examples : </li></ul><ul><li>!Me robaron el carro y todo mi dinero! -They stole my car and all my money! </li></ul>
  3. 3. the preterite <ul><li>Represents an action that is located in a specific point of a time lie and is considered a completed action, it’s always used when listing a series of consecutive actions </li></ul><ul><li>Example : El llamo a su novia, salio de lla casa y manegjo al cine – He called his girlfriend, left the house and drove to the movies </li></ul>
  4. 4. the preterite <ul><li>Used for when you begin, finish or become something </li></ul><ul><li>Example : </li></ul><ul><li>Empezo a llorar – He began to cry </li></ul><ul><li>Termino el examen – He finished the test </li></ul>
  5. 5. the preterite <ul><li>Is not used to describe an exisiting emotional state “He was angry.” The tense used for that sentence is the Imperfect past tense. </li></ul><ul><li>imperfect example : </li></ul><ul><li>estaba enojada cuando entro ana en la sala – I was angry when ana entered the room </li></ul>

  8. 8. the imperfect <ul><li>The Imperfect is called the Descriptive Past Tense because we &quot;set scenes&quot; using the Imperfect Tense.  The Imperfect handles three different past tenses in english </li></ul><ul><li>I did , I was, I used to </li></ul><ul><li>Use the imperfect to indicate we “were doing” something </li></ul>
