Empirical Studies It looks at expected relationshipsthrough “systematic study ofrelationships between scoresobtained from cases on measures”(Schwab, 1999, p. 4).
Empirical Studies Three key elements are used todefine empirical research. They are:cases, measures and sores.

Journals Journals are regular periodicpublications, usually dedicated to aspecific profession or discipline.
Peer-reviewed Journals According to : “Peer-reviewed journals (alsocalled refereed journals) are scholarly journalsthat only publish articles that have passedthrough this review process”. These reviewers(scholars, experts, or academics), must agreethat the article represents properly conductedoriginal research or writing before it can bepublished. (Cornell University Library)

Elements of a Peer- reviewed Journal 1• Scholarly journal articles often have an abstract, a descriptive summary of the article contents, before the main text of the article. 2• Scholarly journals generally have a sober, serious look. They often contain many graphs and charts but few glossy pages or exciting pictures.
Elements 3•Scholarly journals always cite their sources in the form of footnotes or bibliographies. These bibliographies are generally lengthy and cite other scholarly writings. 4•Articles are written by a scholar in the field or by someone who has done research in the field. The affiliations of the authors are listed, usually at the bottom of the first page or at the end of the article--universities, research institutions, think tanks, and the like. 5•The language of scholarly journals is that of the discipline covered. It assumes some technical background on the part of the reader.
Elements 6• The main purpose of a scholarly journal is to report on original research or experimentation in order to make such information available to the rest of the scholarly world. 7• Many scholarly journals, though by no means all, are published by a specific professional organization.
White Paper Description and PurposeA white paper is an authoritative report or guide that helps solve a problemUse of White Paper "White Papers are used as a means of presenting government policypreferences prior to the introduction of legislation"; as such, the "publication ofa White Paper serves to test the climate of public opinion regarding acontroversial policy issue and enables the government to gauge its probableimpact".History and Synthesis of White Paper Since the early 1990s, the term white paper has also come to refer todocuments used by businesses and think tanks as marketing or sales tools.White papers of this sort argue that the benefits of a particular technology,product or policy are superior for solving a specific problem.
Types of White Paper Commercial White Papers Business benefits: Makes a business case for a certain technology or methodology. Technical: Describes how a certain technology works. Hybrid: Combines business benefits with technical details in a single document. Policy: Makes a case for a certain political solution to a societal or economic challenge. Government White Papers
News Paper What is it? It is a scheduled publication containing news of current events, informative articles, diverse features and advertising. It Purpose: The newspaper has played an important role in keeping the public informed on current events. It gleans information from many sources, some public, such as police records, and others private, such as a government and reports it to the public.
Newspaper Editorial Pages: Editorials pages are foundwithin the news paper. They do not containnews, but rather reasoned opinion based onfacts.
Annotated Bibliography “An annotated bibliography is a list ofcitations to books, articles, anddocuments. Each citation is followed by abrief (usually about 150 words)descriptive and evaluative paragraph, theannotation.”
It Purpose The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader ofthe relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sourcescited” (Cornell University Library, 2011).
Books and Peer- reviewed Journal Why Books and Peer Review Journals Books and Peer review Journals are a great sources of scholarship. One “can find a list of extremely useful books on research, scientific ethics, writing, dissertations, and scientific careers” (Honavar, 201). In Journals, one can find an incredible source of valuable information for scholarly research.
