The document discusses how to use the E_Pick function in TM1. It explains that E_Pick allows users to select an element from a subset without overwriting the SUB M N formula, unlike directly inputting a value. Users can double click a cell to make the subset appear and select an element, which will be written back to the cell as a value while keeping the cell as a function.

When you have a created an active form in TM1: SUB N M function.
1) Double click on the correct cell and your subset will appear.
2) Select the element you want to use for your input.
4. When to use “E_Pick”

What if the user inputs “Product B”?
The SUB M N formula is overwritten and the user will no longer be able
to select a page element.

8. How to configure “E_Pick”

If the user double clicks in the cell C13, the Subset will appear and
after selecting an element will be written back to the cell C13 as value.
The E-Pick will continue to show the subset as a function within excel
instead of a formula.
Welcome to our How to video.
In this how to video we will show you how to configure and use the E_Pick function in TM1
When you have a created an active form in TM1 the default way to select an element for the page is by using the SUB N M function.
Just double click on the correct cell and your subset will appear. (Click in Power Point)
Next select the element you want to use for your input. So far this function does what is should do.

If we take a closer look on the page field you will see it is an formula.
So if the user is inputting for example “Product B”
(Click Power Point)
The SUB M N formula is overwritten and the user will no longer be able the select a page element. In order to prevent this you could use the E_Pick function.

The E_Pick function calls the Subset Editor , listing all elements in the specified dimension.
The element name you select in the Subset Editor becomes the return value of the E_PICK function.
In order to get this working you need to add some visual basic script into your excel workbook.
Select in the visual basic editor in this case Sheet1 (Power point Click) and add this code. (Power Point Click). In the next slide the code will be explained.
CLICK POWER POINT : The E_Pick function has been incorporated within an so called “on event” macro. In this case BeforeDoubleClick. So if the user double clicks somewhere in this sheet the macro will run.
CLICK POWER POINT : First we define the Variables in this case the TM1 server and the Range in which the user will double click to see the page selection.
CLICK POWER POINT: Next we define the values of the variables. So rProduct is the the Range C13 .
CLICK POWER POINT: Then we Use an IF Statement to see if the active cell is equal to the defined rProduct Range. C13 in this case
CLICK POWER POINT: If the If statement is true the E_Pick function will be executed. It will write the selected element to the cell C13
The default syntax for the E_Pick is as follows
- Dimension name including the server name > So Server Colon Dimension Name
Then you define the alias you want to show > In this case Alias_Description
Next the subset the user should see> Default
Last the element which should be high lighted. You can leave it blank. > In this case Product Group 2
If the user now double clicks in the cell C13 the Subset will appear and after selection an element it will be written back to the cell C13 as value.
The E-Pick will continue to show the subset as it is now a function within excel instead of a formula as we had with the SUB M N solution. In general we use the E-Pick solution for end user templates.
If the user will double click in any other cell nothing will happen.
