  • Hi! My name is Sonny and I will present you a company I like which is named LucasArts. Let’s first have some information about this company.
  • LucasArts was founded in May 1982 by George Lucas. George Lucas wanted to entertain people in another way than movies, so he thought about Atari which were making video games. Since then, Lucasfilm Games was born. Its name was changed to LucasArts in 1990. So LucasArts is a video game developer company. Most of the games are based on Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Currently, the chairman is George Lucas and the president is Darrell Rodriguez.
  • As I said before, LucasArts was first named Lucasfilm Games. Then, in 1990, Lucasfilm Games became LucasArts. Now maybe you would ask yourself, what does that logo mean? Well, in fact, in that logo, you have to see two things: the L in purple and the man in gold. The purple L is just the first letter of Lucas. The « Gold Guy », him, has a more complicated story: the Gold Guy has the sun rising behind him but this sun looks also like an eye… All this seems to be a reference to the ending a old film of George Lucas, THX 1138, where the hero raised his arms during sunset. As you can see, the last logo just keep the « Gold Guy » but this time, the rendering is looking like an eye.
  • Statistics from Lucasfilm Ltd: http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/Lucasfilm-Ltd-Company-History.html. Key facts from LucasArts: http://www.lucasarts.com/company/about/page2.html Let’s talk about key facts of LucasArts. It’s a private company, who has as a parent, LucasFilm. LucasArts is more than 350 employees (source: Wikipedia). It’s only a quarter of LucasFilm employees (2,000). In 2001, LucasFilm had more than $1,500 Million sales. On the web, very few facts about LucasArts. The first game of LucasArts was Ballblazer as a sort of soccer match in the future. LucasArts made more than 125 games since 1984.
  • LucasArts is also known for its own locations… in the bright California! You have its headquarters at Letterman Digital Arts Center, San Francisco (in the Park Presidio). You also have one of them at San Rafael (location A)… Such gorgeous place than even Yoda rest in peace around the Letterman! May the force be with him!!
  • As it is a video game industry, you have to know their games. Well, there are around 125 games in their listing, so let’s see the most popular: Let’s start with Star Wars X-Wing , one of the most famous Star Wars games from the past. It was created in 1993 and you play on a X-Wing. (first image on the top left) Let’s go back to the time with the first adventure game using SCUMM, that will become one of main scripting tool used by LucasArts: Maniac Mansion . Created in 1987, you have to select 3 characters, with different abilities and you need to save the main character’s girlfriend from a mad scientist. (Second image) With the same SCUMM system, you also have the great Secret of Monkey Island , a very famous serie thanks to its humor and its farfetched riddles. It was created in 1990. (Image on the bottom left) You also have games from Indiana Jones. One of the best was Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis from 1992. (Image on the top right) At last, a most recent game on Star Wars, is the special Star Wars Galaxies . It’s an MMORPG released the first time in 2003. (Image on the bottom middle)
  • If enough time: let’s play a little game with a famous Monkey Island quote… Ready to know the three-headed monkey? There it is: are you strong with the tongue-twister? Let’s read together out loud all these sentences!
  • Presentation of « LucasArt the Early Years » by David Fox. As you can see, LucasArts is a cool and fun company to live with… But, be careful, the way to the light is very complicated to follow and you can learn more about it thanks to David Fox. David Fox made a presentation of the early years of LucasArts. This one is available on YouTube… but beware, you will have to survive on the whole twelve parts if you want to become a Jedi Master…
  • Now it’s time to struggle with Dark Vador… are you ready? May the force be with you!

Carpenter: Even if a woodchuck could chuck wood and even if a woodchuck would chuck wood, should a woodchuck chuck wood?
