So about me I will let you know thesituation about that day last year in Laos., As we also know that on 17 Oct everyyear is International Day for Eradication ofPoverty , it has established on 17 Oct 1993,. Ihope that maybe every countries always didsomething important on that day.
In Laos, President of National SteeringCommittee for Rural Development and PovertyEradication Mr. Bounheuang Douangphachanhled several thousands of Vientiane residents inorganizing a community walking rally to mark the18th anniversary of International Day for PovertyEradication.
The walk started at Patouxay Park andmarched along the Lane Xang Avenue and u-turn at traffic lights in front of the PresidentialOffice. The walk saw the presence of DeputyPrime Minister Asang Laoly, representatives frominternational organizations in Vientiane.
“As we know well, poverty and famine arebig concern of the world which we have toenhance our sodalities to fight and cooperate fortheir solutions. On Oct 17, 1987, over 100,000people gathered at the Human Rights andLiberties Plaza at the Trocadero to honourvictims of poverty, hunger, violence and fear,”said Mr. Bounheuang. In 2003, the Lao PDR named October 17-24 National Week for Poverty Eradication. Sincethen the anniversary of the week has beenmarked annually by the government and theagencies of the United Nations in Laos through avariety of activities.
This years International Day for theEradication of Poverty focuses on people andtheir right to live with health, dignity and hope forthe future. Lao PDRs recent record in improvingliving standards is impressive, with poverty ratesfalling from 46 percent of the population in 1992to 27.6 percent in 2008. The current economic boom, averaging 7.9percent growth annually over the last five years,provides an opportunity to further eradicatepoverty.
