    • 9. 9 User Access & Permission Restriction in Multi-User Environment 9 SolarWinds IP Address Manager Windows Server 2012 IPAM  SolarWinds IPAM has a specific User Delegation feature that allows different IPAM users to have varying levels of access controls for managing IP addresses and subnets.  Windows Server 2012 IPAM relies only on Active Directory™ groups for access limitation. Also, DHCP and DNS servers must be in the same AD forest.  You can define access roles per subnet, group, supernet, DHCP scope or even individual IP addresses.  You need AD permissions to create groups/users specifically for IPAM.  You can also leverage your existing Microsoft Active Directory user accounts to allow users to log into SolarWinds IPAM.  Supports both AD and non-AD users.  There is no way to create non-AD users that can access IPAM for read-only or management purposes. » Using SolarWinds IPAM, you can restrict the subnet or DHCP scope to only the required user login.  Power User – Read/Write and Initiate Scans  Operator – Rea/Write Access  Read Only – Read Only Access  Hide Access – Restrict All Access #4 © 2012, SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. All rights reserved.
    • 10. 10 User Access & Permission Restriction in Multi-User Environment (contd.) 10 » SolarWinds IPAM provides the ability to use role definitions to restrict user access, grant varying privilege levels, and define custom roles » Create and edit role definitions down to the subnet level » Grant varying privilege levels to streamline team access © 2012, SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. • 12. 12 Extensibility & Integration with other NMS 12 » No other NMS module will integrate with Windows Server 2012 IPAM directly on server instance. » Integration is only through enterprise-level NMS solution from Microsoft, which is a limitation especially for SMBs. SolarWinds IP Address Manager Windows Server 2012 IPAM » Being both a modular and standalone solution, you can expand SolarWinds IPAM’s capabilities across:  Network Performance Monitoring  Network Endpoint Tracking  Network Configuration Management  VoIP & WAN Performance Monitoring  Application Monitoring & more » IPAM seamlessly integrates with other network management modules from SolarWinds to offer complete and holistic monitoring utilizing a simple, single, integrated Web interface. #6 © 2012, SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. • 13. 13 Backup & Failover Solution 13 SolarWinds IP Address Manager Windows Server 2012 IPAM  SolarWinds uses the familiar and easy to manage MS SQL 2008 or 2012 database engine to store IPAM data (can also use the free SQL Express version).  SolarWinds IPAM database can also be installed on a separate machine to further optimize performance.  Microsoft Windows Server 2012 uses the proprietary Windows Internal Database for storing IPAM data.  Cannot be hosted on dedicated DB engine or do easy backup/restore of database data.  SolarWinds offers Failover Engine , which backs up the entire application stack and can automatically switch to a backup/shadow IPAM server in order to prevent data loss if main server is down.  Failover Engine is an ideal disaster recovery solution for networks that demand high availability and performance.  Microsoft Windows Server 2012 offers a DHCP Failover mode, but said mode does not back up the entire application stack. #7 © 2012, SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC.
