The increasing numbers and types of network attached devices and the dwindling supply of available IP addresses are driving requirements for sophisticated IP Address Management (IPAM) solutions. Network, system and security administrators need to be aware of all networked devices, who owns them, and their intended purpose in order to ensure that authorized devices have valid IP addresses and network accessibility

Today, many IT departments use manual processes, spreadsheets or home-grown tools for IPAM. A simple request for a new IP assignment can result in the potential for many hours of work, days of elapsed time and the attendant potential for introducing errors as requests span across multiple departments or sites.

Given all of the challenges that IT departments face today, managing your IP address space should not be one of them. Join the Head Geek (Josh Stephens) as he explores best practices for managing your IP address space and some of the pitfalls that come with doing it the old fashioned way, spreadsheets!

    • Here’s a bad way to start your day!
    Sent at 6:03am I need 6 static IP’s NOW!!!
  • 8.
      • IPv6 is probably already on your network
      • You need to be securing and managing it
      • Best way to learn – get started using it
      • It’s never to early to start migration planning
      • IPv6 – not a great fit for spreadsheets
        • v6 addresses are not easy to read, copy or communicate manually without a lot of errors.
        • 128 bit number expressed in eight hex blocks, each block having four characters
