Government agencies face the challenge of reducing the costs of their data centers even though the requirements for these centers are increasing daily. Learn how systems management tools built for consolidated & virtualized environments can help you: optimize data center performance, manage & report on SLAs, increase efficiency & utilization rates, & reduce operating costs.

SolarWinds VP of Technology, Josh Stephens, will be hosting a special webcast focused on best practices for monitoring performance in the virtual environment. You’ll learn how to leverage systems management tools built for consolidated and virtualized environments to better:

• Optimize performance in your data center
• Manage and report on SLAs
• Increase efficiency and utilization rates
• Reduce operating costs

  • What is significant about virtualization? It’s not just the server, but also other components that you have to account for like switches and storage. The ecosystem is no longer static, it’s very dynamic and interdependent.Years ago you may have dealt with a relatively simple architecture. Most of the storage was in the server or directly attached. There was a line of site – application A is running on server 1. And this was static – it didn’t change much.Today, datacenters are highly virtualized. It used to be the storage was in the server. Today the server is in the storage!

    30. 30. Yes, we can consolidate our data centers!!!<br />(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- President Barack Obama ordered feaderal agency leaders on Thursday to accelerate the selling or consolidating of underused real estate, with particular focus on data centers, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.<br />Mr. Obama addressed this concern in a memo:<br />"Both taxpayer dollars and energy resources are being wasted to maintain these excess assets. In addition, many of the properties necessary for the Government's work are not operated efficiently, resulting in wasted funds and excessive greenhouse gas pollution.<br />"For example, over the past decade, the private sector reduced its data center footprint by capitalizing on innovative technologies to increase efficiencies. However, during that same period, the Federal Government experienced a substantial increase in the number of data centers, leading to increased energy consumption, real property expenditures, and operations and maintenance costs."<br />J0sher2014<br />
