    Began from 1760 BC
    The maritime town of Lagos, Portugal, was the first slave market created for the sale of imported African slaves.
    Most of the slaves were brought from Mauritania.
    Whites from Southern State traditionally bought and owned black slaves.
    Slaves had to follow everything that is commanded by the owner

    In relation with To Kill a mockingbird:
    - Both discriminated the Blacks
    - In the novel, Blacks are always wrongly accused though they are innocent
    - Blacks have to obey the owner’s command, if not, they will be tortured.

    Southern States:
    - Texas, Florida, Georgia, Washington DC, Maryland
    Lincoln called for troops to proclaim war against the Southern States as he do not want it to expand
    - To allow the Blacks to have their own rights
    The war lasted for 4 years from 1961- 1965
    Deadliest war in American’s history

    -  The South had lost control of Congress, and was no longer able to silence calls for an end to slavery
    - Northern State destroyed Slavery completely

    - It was between the Blacks and Whites as Tom Robinson had to “fight” with Mayellain the courthouse.

    Whites were having more advantages in almost everything
    African Americans were unhappy as they were not treated the same way

    - Tom Robinson was wrongly accused by the Whites that he raped Mayella which he was actually innocent.

    Every citizen has the same rights by law, practical issues of discrimination remained.
     African-American Civil Rights Movement
    - Black Christian leaders and their white allies joined together to challenge the immoral system of racial segregation.
    Chicano Movement 
    - Encompassed a broad cross section of issues—Education, political rights, etc.

    In the end, the Africans Americans are as equal as the Whites.
    In relation with To kill a mockingbird:
    - Atticus took up Tom Robinson raping case so as to help him fight for his innocence

    Fighting for the rights of blacks in transport as they were biased towards the whites and they have to give up their seats to the whites.
    Nine black teenaged boys accused of rape in Alabama.
    - Tom Robinson was also wrongly accused of raping Mayella.
