Hardly has a certain sector taken the social media by storm all of a sudden like the way political sector has. For those who have religiously adapted to this medium, things have shaped up well for them. There are instances of politicians who have not been able to think or communicate on the lines of the common man. Narendra Modi, Arvind Kejriwal and Shashi Tharoor are a few names that are responsive and interactive on social media. How the top leaders from each party go about in presenting themselves on this medium has a lot to do with the amount of hype and buzz they are able to generate when it matters the most.

INTRODUCTION • The last few months has seen a rapid adoption of Social Media amongst the Indian political circles. • While politicians like Narendra Modi & Shashi Tharoor were already very active on Twitter, rest of the Indian politicians had no presence whatsoever. • Today, many political leaders from major political parties are now on Twitter; attempting to interact and engage with users and possibly influence them. • But are they doing enough? While they are being talked about a lot on Twitter, they hardly care to acknowledge these mentions and respond to such tweets. • This clearly shows that their presence on Twitter is a mere attempt to be present where most of the youth are. They neither have a clear strategy, nor an interest to be truly social.
