  2. 2. Peter SimsPeter Sims is an author, entrepreneur and advisor for companies anduniversities in the USA on the subjects of entrepreneurship and innovation.Among his clients are Pixar, Eli Lilly, Cisco Systems, Qualcomm, e StanfordUniversity.Peter holds a MBA from the Stanford Business School, where he createdwith his colleagues a special course on leadership. Peter collaborates withthe university in the Stanford’s Institute of Design (the d.school).In his professional career, Sims worked in the venture capital business asmember of the team responsible to implement the operations of SummitPartners, a leading investment firm, in London. In the Social Good Seminar, Peter will share with the public the insights ofhis latter book Little Bets, based on an extensive research with around 200innovators. He is also co-author with Bill George of True North, and writes for Harvard Business Review, Tech Crunch and The Financial Times.
  3. 3. According to Sims, we are traditionally trained to think in a linear way, planning and anticipating all the steps of our endeavors. Therefore, we tend to employ this pattern when engaging in any enterprise, leaving little room for innovation. Sims refers to examples such as the work of Beethoven, Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs to argue that great ideas emerge from little bets.In Peter’s point of view, innovators should engage quicklyin trials, test unperfect ideas, dedicate to deep observationsand fail fast to learn fast.
  4. 4. Peter Sims about Little Bets “ The seed of this book was planted while I was attending Stanford Graduate School of Business. One of the most common things I would hear people say was that they would like to do something new – take na unconventional career path or start a company – but they needed a great idea first. I had worked before as venture capital investor, and in that work, I had learned that most successful entrepreneurs don’t begin with brilliant ideas – they discover them”.
