    7. Why Do You Need to Know This?
      • Media work is project work:
        • most work in media organisations is organised around projects
          • use of blogs, wikis, social media tools for internal project management
          • projects include topical features, publishing projects, new media startups, …
        • project planning, building, maintaining are core skills
        • almost always team-based collaborations in pre-set fields
      • Media work is knowledge work:
        • finding, evaluating, and sharing incoming information
        • organising and structuring information for easy accessibility and use
          • researching and tracking information are key capabilities
        • no longer just for media organisations – need to work with relevant user communities
      • (New) media work is exploratory work:
        • decline of traditional knowledge institutions, rise of knowledge networks
        • early adopters are the leaders of tomorrow
        • build a strong and attractive resource for a given topic, and you can be very successful
