    • J Skyler Fernandes J Skyler Fernandes Hi Allison, If they are not capable of making an investment that's fine. If they are providing real value, it is nice to offer them a small amount of equity 0.1%-1%, and add in milestones for them if they help you raise capital or generate revenue above X (where they get either additional equity or a 10% net revenue share, as an example). Note: if you do offer equity, have it vest for 1-2 years (most value fro advisors is gained during that period vs. employees should vest over 4 years), and have them fill out an 83b form so they won't have any tax consequences. If they are notable and valuable, I would suggest adding them to the advisor slide to show your have strong mentors behind you.  2 weeks ago
    • J Skyler Fernandes J Skyler Fernandes Hi Nuo, Go to investor /startup pitch events or learn where the investors are going to be speaking. A little bit of friendly stalking. You can also reach out to them via Twitter, LinkedIn, and Angel List, and if you approach in a thoughtful way, you will usually get a response. Make an effort to get involved in the startup community and you will find there are many people who can make investor intros for you if they like you and believe in what you're doing. You can also apply to the many angel groups or join an accelerator where intros will be made for you. Become part of the VC / Startup world. You have to try in various ways. Networking becomes your job. Be nice, provide intros where you can for others, get good karma, and others will open their rolodex for you. It will pay off with getting investor meetings. The VC world is a small community, we all know each other and talk with each other. So be nice to everyone you meet, as your impression with one investor could become your reputation seen by other investors. This is a people business through and through. But I guarantee if you try to network by attending startup events and use social media, you'll get responses. You got my response...  2 weeks ago
