  • 1. IT 480 Six Sigma Black Belt COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course will cover the concepts, techniques, and tools of Six Sigma and other related subjects. Major topics covered include six sigma overview, project management, improvement methodology and tools for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control, lean concepts, and design for six sigma. TEXTBOOK AND MATERIALS: CSSBB PRIMER, Quality Council of Indiana, www.qualitycouncil.com, 2001. A hand-held scientific calculator is required. INSTRUCTOR: Lyle Gross, CSSBB Adjunct Instructor Southern Illinois University Carbondale Phone: 618-532-3121 Email: lylegross@hotmail.com COURSE WEBSITE: http://sites.google.com/site/lylegrossit EVALUATION: Exam 1 - 2nd Saturday (100pts) Exam 2 - 3rd Saturday (100 pts) Exam 3 - 3rd Sunday (50 pts) Homework (20 pts) DFSS or DOE Project (30 pts) GRADING STANDARDS: 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D <60 F GRADING POLICY: Missed exams have a 20% penalty unless an appropriate, prior excuse is given to the instructor. The missed exam must be completed on the make-up date set by the instructor. ACADEMIC CONDUCT: Cheating on examinations, submitting work of other students as your own, or plagiarism in any form will result in penalties ranging from an F on the assignment to expulsion from the university, depending on the seriousness of the offense.
  • 2. CLASS POLICY: Assigned class readings are required prior to attending class. Lectures will supplement, but not replace, assigned readings. TOPIC SCHEDULE: The following is a study/work sequence, tracking the text that the instructor plans to follow. Actual coverage per weekend may vary, but the student should be prepared ahead of time based on this schedule.
