Founders of Sisco Family Jewels
Lisa Sisco and Carolyn Berluti, the duo behind Family Jewels, are two sisters from a large, close-knit Italian family. Drawn
to the many varieties and textures of both new and vintage beads from around the word, Sisco and Berluti began stringing
bracelets as a way to satisfy their creative passions. They created sets of 7 bracelets, one representing each member of
the family, and called them “Families”. At first, the bracelets were a personalized way to gift family members and friends,
but quickly became a coveted commodity through word of mouth among discerning consumers and buyers of high-end
boutiques.
“One day, I was showing the bracelets I was wearing to a friend at Starbucks when a woman came over and wanted to
buy them directly off of me. That is how it all started,” says Berluti. Within a short time, Family Jewels went from being a
family pastime to a highly sought-after brand. Recently, Carolyn’s daughter, Ali Berluti, joined the Family Jewels team full
time. The family team uses the success of their jewelry line to help causes that carry significant meaning for their family,
including Half the Sky Foundation to care for orphans in China, and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund for ovarian cancer
research towards a cure.
“Making bracelets is what we do when the family hangs out together,” says Berluti. “We never anticipated that it would
become a business.”
Lisa Sisco and Carolyn Berluti currently reside in Westwood, MA. Carolyn Berluti lives with her husband James Berluti,
her four children Nicholas, Ali, James and Rachel, their two dogs Bruno and Stella, and cat Buttons. Lisa Sisco lives close by
with her two children Ling May and Oscar Soucy, her black cat Petunia, (aka Sweet Pea) and guinea pig Tiger Lily.
