    6. 6. JEREMIAH WARNS JUDAH (JEREMIAH 25:12, 29:10) “God made it my duty to warn the southern kingdom, Judah, that King Nebuchadnezzar would move against Judah and make the land a desolation. Judah had learned nothing from her sister’s example! They would be in exile for 70 years and then God would bring them back.” And King Neb uchadnezzar does precisely that! Judah, Daniel and E zekiel include spend 70 yea d, rs in Babylon ian exile befo returning un re der the Persia ns.
    7. 7. GABRIEL SPEAKS TO DANIEL (DANIEL 9) I counted out Jeremiah’s 70 years of captivity–I did! I prayed to God and confessed the sins of my people. I knew God acted righteously in punishing Judah for her failure to obey His voice . . . but the 70 years are almost over!
    8. 8. GABRIEL SPEAKS TO DANIEL (DANIEL 9) “Gabriel came to me in a vision and told me that 70 weeks were decreed for our people and for our holy city. God allotted 70 weeks to accomplish a great work of six parts:”
    9. 9. GABRIEL SPEAKS TO DANIEL Point of Curio (DANIEL 9) sity: Daniel focuses on th 70 years of ca e ptivity, a tim e frame endin within his life g time by a dec ree of Cyrus: The Angel gi ves Daniel an other prophe with a ‘70’ in cy it, one encom passing the entire future of the Jewish race. See “The Com ing Prince” b y Anderson, Chapter V, fo r a discussion of these relationships . Also, Slide S et #28.
    10. 10. 70 WEEKS 6 GOALS The 70 Weeks prophetically announce God’s purposes for national Israel and sets a time frame for accomplishing them. I easily apply this Jewish timeline to the Church, as well. I also believe that the goals themselves will have real expressions in the life of both God’s redemptive lines: that of the Church and that of Israel.
    11. 11. 70 WEEKS; 6 GOALS (DANIEL 9) To finish the transgression To make an end of sin To make atonement for iniquity To bring in everlasting righteousness To seal up vision and prophecy To anoint the most holy place
    12. 12. 70 WEEKS; 6 GOALS (DANIEL 9) To finish the transgression To make an end of sin To make atonement for iniquity To bring in everlasting righteousness To seal up vision and prophecy To anoint the most holy place Israel on God’s Redemptive Road
    13. 13. EACH GOAL INTERPRETED . . . TENTATIVELY To finish the tr ansgression IMHO: Given the Jewish context here, we deal with national Israel’s long history of unfaithfulness to her covenant with God. We may well see that history of failure ended and a heart for faithfulness developed before the 70 weeks end.
    14. 14. EACH GOAL INTERPRETED . . . TENTATIVELY To make an e nd of sin IMHO: For Christians, only the life, death and resurrection of the Messiah will meet this goal’s demands. The Messiah’s death does get mention within the prophecy, strengthening my certainty of this assignment. But I wonder if national Israel’s sinful rejection of Jesus will also end?
    15. 15. EACH GOAL INTERPRETED . . . TENTATIVELY r iniquity tonement fo To make a
    16. 16. EACH GOAL INTERPRETED . . . TENTATIVELY r iniquity tonement fo To make a IMHO: This sharpens the focus of the previous element’s more general scope. HOW will sin come to an end? Through Jesus’ atonement on the cross, His sacrificial atonement. Yet, does this atonement express its power in the context of national Israel’s need for a sin covering?
    17. 17. EACH GOAL INTERPRETED . . . TENTATIVELY To bring in everlasting righteousness IMHO: Here, we must reach to the return of Jesus Christ. Can the Jewish timeline really reach that far from Daniel’s time? Do the Jews, as a race, play a part in securing everlasting righteousness for more than their own race?
    18. 18. EACH GOAL INTERPRETED . . . TENTATIVELY To seal up vision and prophecy IMHO: Paul tells us one day prophecy will end; Joel celebrates an outbreak of intense visioning and dreaming right to the end. Gabriel tells us vision and prophecy have a 70 week run in God’s plan for the Jews . . . and us, as well?
    19. 19. EACH GOAL INTERPRETED . . . TENTATIVELY To anoint the most holy place
    20. 20. EACH GOAL INTERPRETED . . . TENTATIVELY To anoint the most holy place IMHO: Here we have a clear reference to the temple, center of Jewish worship. Its ‘anointing’, in this context, takes on, well . . . apocalyptic overtones. Will we find a temple for God anoint at the end of Jewish history? (Hint: Check Ezekiel 40+)

    24. 24. WHAT’S IN A WEEK? Jews traditionally calculate a year as having 12-30 day months. They used a lunar calendar Such a count reflects Genesis 7:11,24 and 8:14 where 5 months = 150 days. Such a count makes consistent sense of numerous prophetic calculations in which . . . . 3 1/2 years=42 months=1260 days=times, time and half a time
