    • 1Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: 2Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. Making One's Calling and Election Sure 3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

    • Verse 3 confirms the study yesterday.
    • 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

    • We need His divine power to build our characters. God loves us and sent His son Jesus to pay penalty for our sin and come to right relationship with Him
    It’s given not by our own works. As human beings we have both inherited a sin nature and have individually chosen to sin. Because sin separates us from God who is holy, it’s impossible for us to please Him with our own character

    • Verse 3 confirms the study yesterday.

    • At salvation we have everything we need for life because He send the Holy Spirit to live in us. It is His job to teach, correct and lead us to be more like Christ
    Therefore, it is God’s plan to build godly character through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

    • Salvation through Christ
    • Holy Spirit to live in us
    • The Bible for direction
    • A desire to please God
    • The ability to please God
    • Adults and Friends to help
    • Christian leaders and counselors
    • Books and other Media

    • 2 Peter 1: 5-7 (NIV) 5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love
    Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.

    • FAITH
  • 10. What must occur first in building characters?
    • Faith is the absolute starting point. In fact, without faith it is impossible to please God
  • 11. Does this mean that only Christians can have good character?
    • No, there are many moral people unsaved
  • 12. Does this mean that only Christians can have good character?
    • No, There have also been many wicked people who claimed Christ’s name (Adolph Hitler being one).
  • 13. So…
    • We are not talking just an outward show, but an internal heart change that leads a person to want the same things as God wants
  • 14. How your faith shown in your internal heart and character?
    • What must be added to our faith?
