  2. 2. Named after James Madison, our 4th American President, Madison Square Parkwas created in 1686, and became an official park to the public in 1847. Thearea in which the park is located is also known as Madison Square. Bordered byMadison Avenue and 5th Avenue, Madison Square was known to be a park forthe elitist in Manhattan. Even with its pronounced location within Manhattan, the park did become somewhat of an eye-sore by the 1990s, and underwent a2.5 million dollar renovation, funded by prominent figures like New York LifeInsurance Company, Union Square Hospitality Group, and Rudin Management. With the renovation, original elements were restored back to the state that madeMadison Square Park such a beautiful park to begin with.
  3. 3. Madison Square was also thelocation of the original Ceremonialarches constructed in honor ofGeorge Washington for hisInaugural swear-in as the Nation’sfirst President. Though thearches were temporary, one archremains preserved in the parkthat is now dedicated to our firstpresident; Washington SquarePark.
