  1. 1. Human Geography Terms By: Shree
  2. 2. Population Distribution The arrangement or spread of people living in a given area; also, how the population of an area is arranged according to variables such as age, race, or sex.
  3. 3. Human Settlement Patterns The science of human settlements, including city or community planning and design.
  4. 4. Clustered Settlement A clustered settlement is a settlement pattern identified by its dense development around a central church or public place. One example is Heca, Saudi Arabia which is one of the only water resources and, as a result, has a clustered settlement pattern.
  5. 5. Scattered Settlement Scattered settlements are made up of individual buildings scattered over a wide area. One example is rural southwest Ontario which has excellent soil supply and has scattered settlement patterns.
  6. 6. Linear Settlement Linear settlements are located in a line along main transport routes such as roads, railways, rivers and canals. One example is when everyone wanted to live near the St. Lawrence river in Montreal for the water and to fish.
  7. 7. Population Density Population density is the number of people living per square kilometer. Some places with high population density are Bangladesh and Hong Kong. Northern Ontario is a place with low population density.
  8. 8. Population Density of the World
  9. 9. Overpopulated Excessive population of an area to the point of overcrowding, depletion of natural resources, or environmental deterioration.
