  • Ask the audience what they think: Social interaction / networking Education / access to resources Opportunities to contribute – Leadership / “I have an idea…..!”
  • Beyond networking – what’s the value of membership? Standards / best practices – don’t have to reinvent the wheel ISG program – industry specific information Leg /reg updates – help you keep current Webinars / educational sessions – All of the above help you identify areas where you can make an impact on your organization through effective RIM practices. And, they help you develop the background knowledge needed to address the areas effectively.
  • Let’s look at what the member services survey of 2002 tells us about this question…..
  • Key issue for the profession – electronic records management – shows up in ARMA’s last membership survey (2002)
  • Top 2 areas: electronic records management / legal considerations, records retention These have become areas of emphasis for ARMA International in planning educational offerings (webinars, online courses, pre-conference workshops and sessions on the full program. These issues should be areas of emphasis for your chapter too. On a local level, it’s as important to address these topics as it is in our association level programming.
  • This slide shows us there is a great deal of opportunity for chapters – members have indicated a strong interest in locally developed programs – So, in your programming, make sure you cover these issues of high importance to the profession. These are the same issues faced by companies / organizations that don’t have ARMA members – they still face the same issues. So, if you can get the message out effectively, it should be a draw to your chapter events!

  • It’s important to note that we should not only service our members - We must reach outside the box to customers in order to gain members

  • Getting into arguments is not the way to overcome objections
  • This technique can be used to overcome virtually any objection. This technique is known as the feel-flat-found method and it’s very simple. When prospects say that they think membership is too expensive or that they don’t have time to participate, the person asking the to join simply says, “I know how you feel. I felt the same way myself, but I found that membership really was a great investment. This method is obviously most effective when used by a member. In fact, members are the only ones who can say that with any credibility. There are then some comments about things to avoid when responding to these objections, as well as suggested responses to overcome each objection.
  • Staff is more familiar with overall products and services BUT they don’t have the credibility as current members because they don’t work in the same field or industry as the prospect. Current members - get a group of recruiters who have a lot of credibility with prospects that can discuss specific technical or general matters related to the industry or field. Telemarketing is more effective because the caller gets the opportunity to listen.
