  • 1. CENTER FOR DUE DILIGENCE P.O. Box 8 • Western Springs, Illinois 60558 (630) 662-0144 • Fax (708) 467-0475 Consulting • Research E-mail: CFDD@401kduediligence.com Competitive Analysis Web: http://www.401kduediligence.com Date: September15, 2003 To: Retirement Plans Specialists & Exhibitors Subject: HOW TO GROW YOUR RETIREMENT PLANS BUSINESS: An Exclusive Conference for Retirement Plans Specialists From: CFDD The CFDD is the premier provider of 401(k) program competitive analysis to the trade and our exclusive advisor conference, “How to Grow Your Retirement Plans Business,” is scheduled for November 13-15 (Thursday – Saturday) at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois. The Hyatt’s location is geographically friendly to Chicago’s O’Hare airport and has excellent hotel and restaurant facilities. The Hyatt offers quality rooms at a low cost, the exhibition area is huge and the five classroom-style meeting rooms are first-class. Airport Shuttle service is also available. More importantly, the “all business” conference is dedicated solely to helping advisors grow their business and invitations will only go to retirement plans specialists and CFDD vendor clients that support them. Rookies and direct-sold vendors will not be invited. The exclusive conference will also provide unique opportunities for specialists to network with other accomplished specialists and learn about successful business practices. Again, the CFDD conference is “not” designed for generalists and is already heavily booked. AN AGENDA DESIGNED BY ADVISORS The conference is for real people, i.e., the agenda was designed by advisors, and will also include roundtable/panel discussions, cocktail parties and exhibition booths. • 2. Growing Your Retirement Plans Business: Exclusive Conference For Retirement Specialists Page 2 August 22, 2003 Accomplished specialists are very interested in what other specialists are doing and top dogs with successful business models will cover many of the topics and participate in roundtable/panel discussions. Specialists interested in participating in the conference as speakers or members of roundtable/panel discussions should also contact the CFDD as soon as possible. It is not required for attendance, but only specialists with $100 million in retirement plan assets will be considered as speakers or roundtable/panel participants. Additional topics will be considered in the future, but the November 13-15 conference agenda includes the following advisor suggested topics: • Effective Telemarketing: How To Make It Work (Advisor Roundtable) • Internal & External Lead Generation (Advisor Roundtable) • Becoming A Better Consultant (Diversified) • Adding Value & Better Consultant Practices (Oppenheimer Funds) • RIA Pricing Model (Ceridian) • Cost Effective Service Models: Determine Profitability By Plan, What Services To Offer & How To Offer Them (Advisor Roundtable) • Moving Up Market: Successful Strategies For Selling Plans Over $20 Million (MFS) • Commission Management: Problem Or Crisis (CFDD) • Commission Management At The Advisor Level: Making Sure You Get Paid (Advisor Roundtable & BISYS) • Provider Rollover Practices & How To Capture More Rollovers (Prudential Retirement Services & Executive Board) Center for Due Diligence

  • 4. Growing Your Retirement Plans Business: Exclusive Conference For Retirement Specialists Page 4 August 22, 2003 ADVISOR ROUNDTABLE/PANEL DISCUSSIONS: Providers are encouraged to include specialists in their presentations, but as noted, the CFDD will also host non-sanitized Roundtable/Panel discussions primarily consisting of specialists with successful business models. Specialists often operate in a vacuum and while they are interested in the business practices of other accomplished specialists, some are reluctant to disclose their own model. As a result, the panels will not include specialists from the same geographic area without their permission. The roundtables on “Commission Management” and “Effective Telemarketing” should be particularly interesting. Telemarketing remains the most painful part of being a retirement specialist and one of the advisors may be offering his own telemarketing service to other advisors in the near future. ADVISOR REGISTRATION FEES & EXECUTIVE SUMMARIES Advisor attendance will be priced at $500 per person, but CFDD advisor clients that speak or participate in roundtable/panel discussions will have their attendance fees waived. Hotel fees will, however, not be waived, but advisors should not be hesitant in asking their lead providers to pay the cost of attending the conference. Non-clients should also note the attendance bonus below. The conference agenda is full and we may have to schedule overlapping meetings. As a result, Executive Summaries will be available to attendees and those unable to attend the conference. The Executive Summaries will capture the essence, key learnings, best practices and most important take-aways from “all” the sessions. The core ideas of the smartest people in the industry will also be distributed via email shortly following the conference. Center for Due Diligence
