    Notes on slide 1

Share my voicethreads, share vt wiki

For teachers, I believe that asking the right kind of questions will be one of the keys to education innovation, we’re moving away from students memorizing answers and moving toward deeper thinking with better questions. Dan Pink asks us if we are able to ask the right questions to promote right brain thinking and Tony Wagner says that knowing what questions to ask is far more important than trying to know all the answers, future job success depends on asking the right questions to problem solve

Capture those amazing classroom discussions and share them digitally with a global audience, VT boosts participation-“students participate more actively in digital discussions than in the classroom” –Edutopia linkFree Teacher AccountsStudents join by adding other identities (show process) Piggy back on other’s comments or share your own.

Thinking is answering AND asking the right questions. In VT, ask questions that help students reflect, share ideas or creative solutions, connect to prior experiences, connect ideas together, Do you ask “fat” or “skinny” questions?

Vocab has changed to verbsTop 2 have really changed from 1957 to 2001 versionWork in progress

Not looking for 1 right answer, Have the students dig deeper in thought to show true understanding- make connections, analyze, evaluate, new solutions or suggestions, share opinions, focus on creative thoughtShare response with webcam, mic, text, or audio file upload

Get others to join in, Post link or embed on blog, tweet about it, put on VoiceThread Wiki, VTs can now be uploaded to your ipod

Step 1- Creating an account sets up a “nest” for all of your voicethreads and a ‘nest” for other vts you subscribe too. Educators set up free edu accounts. This is also the time to prepare for all students to participate by adding identities for each child in the class. (model)

Step 2- Create a list of higher order questions for your students to think about and share. Use grade level collab time to dev. these “fat” questions. Pull in resource personnel if possible. (Share file)

Step 3- I use powerpoint to gather organize text and images needed for vt, then export as .jpgs. You could also use any image editing software- paint, image blender, or simply gather a folder of copyright friendly images- (Discovery Images, Pics4Learning, wikimedia, flickr, Library of Congress) (model w/ppt file) Try to use smaller file sizes if possible.

Step 4- Import pictures, determine settings for sharing and commenting, narrate intro slide (model on VT website)

Step 5- Allow student to devour these delicious questions, conference with students, encourage to dig deeper and expand reasoning behind response, Sometimes allow students the opportunity to hear previous responses to expand on others’ comments like true discussions. (Nile River discussion)

Step 6- (See Handout) Older students can use handout, younger students will need assistance. Can respond by webcam, microphone, txt, or upload audio. The Doodle tool can be used when responding.

(Flock of bald eagles roosts in snow covered trees.. Chilkat River, Alaska) Step 7- Share on blog, share link, ask for other classes to join in, opportunity to connect with others near and far, provide a global audience (show Trantwood Blog) (Show VT Browse/search feature) *If moderation is checked, author must click “show” to approve comment or guest comments will not appear.

Share lessons learned, potential problems with mic, changing out slide, moderating (Share FAQ file)
