NEUROLOGICAL EVIDENCEThere is evidence for above baseline release of striatal dopamine during video game play positively correlated with performance level during the task in the video game (Koepp, Gunn, Lawrence, Cunningham, Dagher, Jones, Brooks, Bench, & Grasby, 1998). When gamers who abstained from play for a period of time were shown pictures related to game play, the same areas involved with craving as in Ecstasy users were activated in the brain in fMRI studies (Weinstein, 2010)

Depression is also a predictive factor for males (Cyranowski, Frank, Young, & Shear, 2000).Adolescent males were the most prone to online gaming addiction when they were displeased with other aspects of their lives, the same was not found in females (Ko et al. 2005).Other factors contribute to the keep problem of self-regulation in online gameplay Self-reports of self-regulation deficits in other areas of life and in general are telling of problematic game use Eventual codependence factors (Seay & Kraut, 2007)
