  1. 1. Cell Theory• State the parts of the cell theory.• Identify the 2 types of cells (with/without nucleus).• Name 2 eukaryote cells.

Cells & Cell Theory In1665, Robert Hooke was the first person to describe cells when looking at cork with a microscope. He observed cells in plants and fungi. In 1673, Anton von Leeuwenhoek discovered single-celled organisms (protists) in pond scum. He was the first to see blood cells, bacteria cells, and yeast cells.

Cells and Cell Theory In 1838, Matthias Schleiden concluded that all plants parts were made of cells. In 1839, Theodor Schwann concluded that all animal tissues were made of cells. In 1858, Rudolf Virchow stated that all cells could form only from other cells. These 3 discoveries led to the cell theory.
