  • 1. THE GREAT INVENTOR
  • 2. • Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 – 7 January 1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, physicist, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, and futurist.• He was an important contributor to the use of commercial electricity, and is best known for his contributions to the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system. • 3. • Tesla attended school at the Higher Real Gymnasium in Karlovac.• In 1875, Tesla went on to study electrical engineering at the Austrian Polytechnic in Graz.• In December 1878, Tesla left Graz and severed all relations with his family. Source: wikipedia.com 3
  • 4. • On 6 June 1884, Tesla arrived in New York City with four cents in his pocket, a letter of recommendation, a few poems, and remnants of his belongings.• His trip across the Atlantic had not been pleasant; his ticket, money and some of his luggage had been stolen Source: wikipedia.com 4
  • 5. • Edison hired Tesla to work for his Edison Machine Works.• Teslas work for Edison began with simple electrical engineering and quickly progressed to solving some of the companys most difficult problems. Source: wikipedia.com 5
  • 6. • In 1885, Tesla claimed that he could redesign Edisons inefficient motor and generators, making an improvement in both service and economy. According to Tesla, Edison remarked:"Theres fifty thousand dollars in it for you - if you can do it". Source: wikipedia.com 6
  • 7. • After months of work, Tesla finally finished the task and inquired about payment. Edison claimed he had been only joking and replied: "Tesla, you dont understand our American humor". Source: wikipedia.com 7
  • 8. • In 1887, Tesla constructed a brushless alternating current induction motor, which he demonstrated to the American Institute of Electrical Engineers in 1888.• In April 1887, Tesla began investigating what would later be called X-rays using his own single terminal vacuum tubes Source: wikipedia.com 8
  • 9. • Tesla demonstrated wireless energy transmission as early as 1891. This so- called Tesla effect refers to the movement of energy through space and matter. Source: wikipedia.com 9
  • 10. • In the late 1880s, Tesla and Thomas Edison became adversaries in part because of Edisons promotion of direct current (DC) for electric power distribution over the more efficient alternating current advocated by Tesla and Westinghouse. Source: wikipedia.com 10
