  • 2. History• “Germany” is derived from the Latin word “Germania.”• The current German state was founded in 1949 in the wake of Germany’s defeat in WWII.• Germany’s current population is 8 million.

  • 4. food• Bread is the main food at both breakfast and dinner.• Dinner generally consists of bread, sausages or cold cuts, cheese, and vegetable garnish.• Lunch around noon is the usual warm meal of the day.• Beer is important in German cuisine and is served with many meals.

  • 8. Oktoberfest• 16-day festival held in Munich.• Largest fair in the world with more than 5 million people attending each year.• Began when King Ludwig married Princess Theresa in 1810. They invited all the citizens of Munich to join the celebration outside the city gates.• 1,850,000 gallons of beer are consumed.
