Dental and orthodontic professionals encounter a variety of occupational fume and vapor in their workplace. By utilizing a source capture containment system with quality filter media, these hazardous molecules are captured at the source of emission; aiding in protecting the operator's breathing zone.

2. Sentry Air Systems manufactures air filtration and fume
extraction solutions that help protect against occupational
exposure of harmful air pollutants.
Those in the dental and orthodontic profession encounter a
variety of air pollutants that should be captured. The following
slides highlight just some of the many applications we provide
solutions for.

3. Chemical Fume
Methyl methacrylate is a common chemical used in the dental profession. By utilizing a source capture
fume extractor with activated carbon filtration, these hazardous vapor molecules are arrested at the
point of generation and filtered; helping protect the operator’s breathing zone.

“I use to suffer headaches every time I smelled Methyl Methacrylate.
When I did splints the entire office smelled of it. Now that I have my
hood never a headache and absolutely no smell in the office or lab
area.” – Dr. Paul M. Baraban D.D.S.

4. Disinfectant Vapor
Maintaining a healthy medical office is of utmost importance. To accomplish this, disinfectants must be
used on surfaces, equipment, tools, kits and other items. An accumulation of disinfectant vapor in the
airstream may lead to overexposure resulting in negative side effects. By conducting disinfecting
activities within a fume hood, negative air pressure is used to pull the vapor away from the operator
and into a filter housing.

5. Powder Containment
Powders and other fine particulate are oftentimes mixed with solutions to create a paste or mold.
When mixed or agitated, powders easily become airborne and can result in inhalation. By working
within or near a source capture system with HEPA filtration, these powders are entrapped in the filter
before reaching the ambient room air.

6. 3D Printer Fume
Studies have found that desktop 3D printers emit ultra-fine particles (UFP). This occurs when the filament
is heated for printing. UFP is practically invisible to the naked eye and can travel through the nasal
passage and deposit on the lungs and in the brain. A source capture system with HEPA filtration works to
arrest UFP before it can enter the airstream.
