Film Poster Comparison Analysis Willy Wonka - Presentation Transcript

    1. Here are two film posters based on the same story. One is from 1971 and the other is from 2005, I am going to compare the difference between the two and see how movie posters have changed over time. The background of the poster is plain which makes the images and the writing stand out more. Block colours are used for the images which make them eye catching and draws the audience’s attention. There is a variety of little images rather than one main image The style of the writing is bubbly and flows together well. The colour of the main writing links together, going from light orange to dark brown. There is more writing on this poster than the other poster below. This poster uses pastel colours to create a light hearted feel to the image. There is one main image which is of the main character and the main focus of the poster. Even though the main character on both posters is the same, they are portrayed differently. In this poster, he looks devious by the way he is hiding behind his hat whereas the previous poster has portrayed the character as being almighty and powerful. The poster above has made the images bright and bold whereas the poster to the right has used darker images. The images used here are clearer and the poster looks less cluttered compared to the one from 1971. One of the things that is the same is the credits at the bottom of the poster which gives additional information about the film. I think that over the years, posters have generally become simpler and more eye-catching with brighter colours. The main focus of the poster now is of the image rather than the information about the film. Because of the increase in blockbuster films, it is more important to grab the audience’s attention.
