Ephesians 1:3-6

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.

    9. 9. The uses of “IN”

“ IN” has two uses in the NT

Locative - “IN” describes the location

“ I put the ball in the box.”

Notice “in” tells the location

Instrumental - “IN” introducting the means, by means of

“ Dr. Salk was important in finding a cure for polio.”

Notice here “in” is not a location but a means

    10. 10. 11. 11. The Primary Idea in Ephesians

The primary idea in Ephesians is not that Christ is the means by whom these blessings come.

Of course, He is the means (but that is not the emphasis here).

The primary idea is where these spiritual blessings are located.

Our whole life must be located “in Christ”

    12. 12. Romans 6:3-5

3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,
