  • My personal journey – Why did I choose EC? switched majors at EC multiple times.
  • I discovered Drucker later in life. Dense read but well worth it.
  • Just went through a multiple week training program on this within last year.
  • This has been my “philosophy” for last 6 years How many in room agree with this? Does it make sense? You’d be surprised how many do NOT act this way, even if they agree in principle. HARD work to develop people. HARDER work to replace people. Or, so you’d think! Once word spreads that you treat people well, you’d applicant pool opens up massively. Plus, its how you want to be treated! Do unto others!

  • How many have had a full time job? How many feel like they wanted more feedback? How do you think your bosses felt? Think they feel they get enough feedback? Teach the feedback model -
  • Take the broader business view
  • Communication is critical It’s the way you align people and resources to your vision Generally must be overdone in order to be effective – 7 times is magic number Think about great communicators – NOT necessarily great speakers Communication is what the listener does! – Mark Horstman –
  • Imperfect word – not the word I want…. Dispassionate empathy? Emotional Anticipation? Selfless? Considerate? Mindfulness? Knowing your constituent Knowing what they need Building or communication it in a way in which they will be grateful that you did Applies to politicians, leaders, sales people, project managers, web designers, software developers The best in every one of those jobs has this trait in spades…..
