Word Processor <ul><li>A word processor is a computer used for writing, editing and printing text. </li></ul><ul><li>A dedicated word processor system that can only be used for word processing. </li></ul><ul><li>Atypical word processor also has the following features: </li></ul><ul><li>Enter and edit text, </li></ul><ul><li>Word wrap </li></ul><ul><li>Formatting: alter text alignment, line spacing, alter text style, alter page size and layout, set margins page breaks, tabulation and tables </li></ul><ul><li>Search and replace, </li></ul><ul><li>Spelling check, </li></ul><ul><li>Grammar check, </li></ul><ul><li>standard paragraph, </li></ul><ul><li>Standard letter and mail merge </li></ul><ul><li>The most common method of entering text into a WP is a keyboard. </li></ul><ul><li>Other methods of entering text are by scanner and OCR software. </li></ul><ul><li>The output of scanned text from OCR software may need to be edited. </li></ul><ul><li>Word processors allow you to search and replace globally and selectively. </li></ul><ul><li>Spell checkers work by comparing all the words in the document with the words stored in a dictionary. </li></ul><ul><li>Spell checkers don’t check the grammar in the document. </li></ul><ul><li>A grammar checker works by highlighting sentences that it thinks contain grammatical errors and giving other words or phrases. </li></ul><ul><li>You can make a letter by loading a no. of standard paragraphs and placing them in a document. </li></ul><ul><li>A standard letter has blanks for details to be inserted later. </li></ul><ul><li>Mail merge is the process of loading personal details and placing them in the correct place in a standard letter. </li></ul><ul><li>A template is a readymade blank document. </li></ul><ul><li>In order to make a template you save it as a template using the SAVE AS command from FILE. </li></ul>
