2. INTRODUCTION
What about a sustainable house?
• Characteristics of a sustainable house.
• Building Systems.
• Use of renewable energies.
3. What’s sustainability?
Consists in satisfying the necessities of nowadays’
generation without sacrifying the capacity to fullfil future
generations needs. (Informe Bruntland, ONU 1987).
4. Sustainable house: design factors
It is orientated and designed in
order to get comfort with a
minimum amount of energy
spent.
Main design factors:
• Solar radiation
• Wind currents
• Vegetation around the
house
5. Sustainable house: : environmental
impact
Sustainable architecture worries about
the environmental impact:
1 – Construction techniques.
2 – Construction Placement.
3 – Environmental impact.
4 – Energy employed.
5 - Construction Materials.

6. 4 basic pillards
1.-Ecosystem and situation
2.-Energetic systems taking
renewable energies and
into account.
3.-Construction materials
4.-Recycling and reusing
materials

7. CHARACTERISTICS OF A SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
1-The building orientation is very important although
most of the times it is not taken into account. A house
cannot always be built where the owners would like to do
it. There are not too many options as far as placement is
concerned.
8. 2- The heating system is
very important since most
of the times energy in a
building is lost due to the
materials used . In order
to avoid this materials
should take into account:
1 –Heat accumulation
2 –Windows and doors
must be isolated.
9. A great efficiency can be acquired by using:
- A good isolation system in roofs and walls.
- Sun protection for windows.
- A good system of ventilation
- A great efficient conditioning air system.
10. Production of renewable
energies for self use.
- Solar energy captation by
means of photovoltaic
cells.
- Installation of small size
aerogenerators.
- Systems of solar heating
11. 3.- CONSTRUCTION
MATERIALS
The building of the house must
take into account different aspects
such as :
•Soil movements
•Structure and roof
• Impermeabilization
•Isolations
•Filling
•Glass and painting materials
•Electricity
12. 4- RESIDUES AND REUSE:
IMPLIES:
- Treatment of grey waters
- Biologic stabilization
- Compostage production from organic garbage.
- Recycling.
13. Water efficiency:
Water resource is not illimited that is why its use
should be reduced optimizing thus the circle of water
use.
• Grey waters should be recycled for plant
watering or water close use.
• Cleaning system of water should be included
or even provide different water saving systems
in the house taps.

improvement.
