The hairline and temple areas are perhaps the most noticeable elements of a hair transplant surgery. Follicular Unit Extraction can be considered the preferred technique for natural looking results
2. Follicular Unit Extraction versus Strip Surgery for
Hairline Restoration
The Challenges of Strip Surgery for the Hairline Region
In strip surgery, a linear section of the scalp can be safely extracted in limited
regions of the head. The thickest hairs tend to grow in these areas. Using these
grafts in the hairline can look very harsh.
FUE Hair Transplant Techniques For Natural Looking Hairlines
With Follicular Unit Extraction, grafts can be taken from anywhere on the head.
Tiny punches are used to excise natural groups of 1-4 hair. These are known as
Follicular Units.
Nape hairs offer the thin caliber that resembles the soft hairs of natural hairlines.
These grafts can be safely harvested and utilized for detailed hairlines.
3. uGraft for Hairline Restoration
What is uGraft?
Ugraft is a highly specialized surgical system. It enables the safe donor harvesting
of specialized hair such as those in the nape region.
How is uGraft Different?
Wounds created with uGraft tools are not only quite small, they also have specific
shapes for the highest standards in wound healing.
uGraft for Nape Hair
Nape hair follicles are quite delicate. UGraft devices employ a gentle pull to safely
extract such grafts so that they don't risk damage from the punch edge
The quality of wound healing is another important factor. There are no visible marks
after the healing process is complete. This is due to both the size and shape of the
wounds that are created.
The skin within the nape area is often apparent when patients wear short hair
styles. The quality of wound healing results is therefore important.
4. Patient Example
This patient originally underwent strip surgery. He was not
happy with the appearance of his hairline. He wanted more
fullness and coverage, in addition to a softer looking edge.
To achieve this, Follicular Unit Extraction with uGraft was
employed.

5. 1000 uGrafts were harvested to create the donor supply.
This was comprised of:
(1) nape hair
(2) head hair
Here is a picture of his results:
6. The patient was very pleased with his results. FUE was
used to improve the results of his strip procedure by:
● correcting the angles of the hair so that the shafts
pointed towards the back of the head (not forward)
● revising the shape of his temple points by adding more
fullness to create a harmonious balance with the hairline
● creating a softer, more natural looking contour in the
outer edge of the hairline.
According to the patient, other people noticed an
improvement through these results, although they could not
articulate the exact variables
