  2. 2. AIR BARRIER PAPER Air Barrier Paper Air Barrier Paper is a sheet material used as both a vapor retarder and an air barrier. Air Barrier Paper also controls water passage.
  3. 3. ATTIC VENTILATION SOFFIT VENT RIDGE VENT
  4. 4. ATTIC VENTILATION CONT… GABLE VENT ROOF TURBINE Attic Ventilation is needed not only to allow water vapor to escape, but it is needed to keep the house cool in the summer by preventing the buildup of solar heat conducted through the roofing and roof sheathing.
  5. 5. BACKHOE Bucket Width= 24 in. BACKHOE A Backhoe moves and relocates the earth on the jobsite. With the help of the hydraulic Backhoe- a piece of excavating equipment consisting of bucket, the backhoe can a digging bucket on the end of a two-part articulated arm make the workers job much easier.
  6. 6. BATTER BOARDS Batter Boards are temporary frames built just outside the corner of an excavation to carry marks that lie on the surface planes of the basement that will be built in the excavation. Batter boards are constructed at least four BATTER BOARD feet outside the stakes at the corners of the foundation to allow room for excavation.

  14. 14. CLADDING CONT…. WOOD SHINGLES Wood Shingles- thin, tapered slabs of wood sawn from short pieces of tree trunk, with the grain of the wood running parallel to the length of the shingle. Wood Shakes- split from the wood. Rather than sawn, and are thicker, with a much more irregular face texture than wood shingles.
  15. 15. CODE REQUIREMENTS The height of the window opening is 35” The width of the window is 27” Those dimensions equal 6.8 square feet The minimum opening is 5.7 feet so the window meets code. It is 15 inches above finished floor and the max is 44 inches. The riser for this set of stairs is 71/2” The tread is 11” The max riser for a set of stairs is 73/4” The minimum tread width is 10 inches. Therefore, this set of stairs meets code.
  16. 16. CONCRETE JOINTS JOINT FAIL Control joints are groove inserted into a concrete surface to quot;controlquot; cracking. Essentially, this groove is an intentional, controlled crack placed in the concrete to CONTROL JOINT preclude the concrete's cracking on its own, in an uncontrolled manner.
  17. 17. CONCRETE JOINTS CONT…. Isolation Joint--Separation that allows adjoining parts of a structure to move freely from one another, both in the horizontal and vertical directions. The steel post is being isolated from the concrete slab.

  32. 32. FRONT END LOADER FRONT END LOADERS--Loaders are used mainly for uploading materials into trucks, laying pipe, clearing rubble, and digging. A loader is not the most efficient machine for digging as it cannot dig very deep below the level of its wheels, like a backhoe. The Front end loader cannot push dirt with as much force as the bulldozer can.
  33. 33. GYPSUM BOARD GYPSUM BOARD--an interior facing panel consisting of a gypsum core sandwiched between paper faces ; also called drywall, plasterboard. GYPSUM BOARD (TAPED AND MUDDED)
  34. 34. HEAT PUMP COMPRESSOR/ EVAPORATOR—This unit extracts heat from outdoors even though the air may be cool. It also works in reverse and extracts cool air from warm temperatures. The air handling unit is the part of the cooling or heating system on a house or a building which moves the air through the ductwork. It does not condition the air, it is the motor and fan which propels it. The cooling unit cools the air and the heating element warms it. The air handler gets this treated air to the vents.
  35. 35. HEAT PUMP CONT… ADVANTAGE OF THIS SYSTEM—This system can both heat and cool interior spaces and It is a very effective air filtration system. DISADVANTAGES OF THIS SYSTEM— This system is relatively noisy compared to other heating and cooling systems. This system is also rather difficult to zone.
  36. 36. INSULATION PURPOSE OF INSULATION--The purpose of insulation is to lower the heating and cooling costs for the house by limiting heat transfer through the walls and the ceiling. LOOSE FILL INSULATION BATT/BLANKET INSULATION

The strands are oriented in the same manner in each layer as the grains of the veneer layers in plywood. 4’ x 8’ ORIENTED STRAND BOARD
  42. 42. PLUMBING LAVATORY lavatory - a bathroom sink that is permanently installed and connected to a water supply and drainpipe; where you can wash your hands and face Average size piping for a lavatory is 1 ½” The piping used to drain a lavatory are WATER CLOSET typically 3”
  43. 43. PLUMBING CONT… Manufactured Tub and Shower unit Vent through the roof for the plumbing’s drainage system The vents are located on the sewer side of each trap and the supply air so that the draining water cannot create a suction to pull water out of the trap.

  45. 45. PLYWOOD PLYWOOD—A wood panel composed of an odd number of layers of wood veneer Bonded together under pressure. Plywood veneers are rotary sliced. The strip of veneer is then clipped into sheets that pass through a drying kiln where, in a few minutes, their moisture content is reduced to roughly 5 percent. The sheets are then glued together and pressed to Veneer—A thin layer, sheet, or facing. create plywood.

  50. 50. STEEP ROOF MATERIALS UNDERLAYMENT It is used for waterproofing before roof shingles are applied to the surface of a roof. UNDERLAYMENT—A panel laid over a sub-floor to create a smooth, stiff surface for the application of finish flooring. Also a layer of waterproof material such as building felt between roof sheathing and roofing.
