• Note: No continued engineering support is planned for the “X” releases. Customers are encouraged to migrate to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(2)T.
• The Cisco® 830 Series of secure broadband routers is ideal for providing secure Internet and corporate network connectivity to small remote offices and to teleworkers. Cisco 830 Series routers provide a wide range of integrated security services and advanced quality of service (QoS) features for high-quality data, voice, and video applications. They offer easy deployment and remote management features with Cisco IOS® Software. Advanced Security and Performance for Enterprise-Class VPNs The Cisco 830 Series delivers integrated enterprise-class security services, including hardware-accelerated IP Security (IPSec), Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) encryption for virtual private networks (VPNs), and stateful-inspection firewall for secure Internet connectivity. Optional advanced features—such as Cisco Easy VPN Remote (a software feature that allows simple deployment and management of VPNs); public key infrastructure (PKI) security requiring digital certificates; IPSec Network Address Translation transparency (NAT-T); the Cisco Intrusion Detection System (IDS); and URL filtering—help ensure that the small office receives the highest level of security, which contributes to the corporate network's security. High-Quality, Secure Voice and Video The advanced QoS and high-performance encryption features offered in Cisco 830 Series routers provide high-quality voice and video services to remote users. When IP phones are connected at a remote site, a Cisco 830 Series router can queue and prioritize the voice traffic over data traffic to ensure a high-quality, secure voice-over-IP (VoIP) connection from the remote or home office back to the corporate network. Manageable, Scalable, and Reliable Access The Cisco 830 Series uses valuable management and deployment tools to deliver the industry's lowest total cost of ownership for connecting small remote offices and teleworkers to the corporate network. As a remotely manageable platform, the Cisco 830 Series supports advanced remote troubleshooting commands available in Cisco IOS Software; a virtual auxiliary (AUX) port (Cisco 831 and 837 routers) for out-of-band management with an external modem or through an integrated ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) ISDN port (Cisco 836 router); and Secure Shell (SSH) Protocol for secure in-band management via Telnet. Cisco 830 series routers come equipped with two embedded remote management tools, Cisco Security Device Manager (SDM) and Cisco Router Web SetUp Tool (CRWS). The Cisco 837 offers the complete breadth of enhanced business functionality, including differentiated classes of service, integrated toll-quality voice, enterprise class security and Cisco IOS ® software reliability. The Cisco SOHO 97 has lower performance than 837 as far as encryption performance is concerned, but fares better than the comparable products from competition. Having a consistent user interface is very important for reducing total cost of ownership, and Cisco IOS systems offer a coherent interface to management as well as features required for a certain technology. The Cisco 830 Series routers combine for the first time the power of an integrated router and a security appliance—a capability unmatched in the industry so far
• What is Security Device Manager (SDM)? SDM is an easy-to-use Internet browser-based device management tool that is embedded within the Cisco IOS 800 – 3700 Series access routers at no cost. It simplifies router and security configuration through the use of intelligent wizards to enable customers and partners to quickly and easily deploy, configure and monitor a Cisco access router. SDM is designed for resellers and network administrators of small- to medium-sized businesses who are proficient in LAN fundamentals and basic network design, but has little or no experience with IOS command-line interface (CLI) or may not be a security expert. SDM is also great for Advanced users too. It has a number of time saving tools. Examples include ACL editor, VPN crypto map editor, IOS CLI preview, and many more.
• SDM Helps Cisco Customers too. They can leverage their network investment by quickly and easily integrating security into their network Reduce Support Costs SDM helps them to quickly resolve security configurations by using the graphical user interface versus keying in lengthy CLI commands. Also a lot of information is displayed on the screen versus keying in many commands and redisplaying them. With SDM, SMBs don’t need to invest in costly management tools. Customers can also leverage new IOS security features with minimal staff re-training. Use the SDM wizards and online help to guide you through new features.
• What are some SDM differentiators? SDM has a unique Security Audit wizard that provides a comprehensive Router Security Audit. SDM uses Cisco TAC and ICSA recommended security configurations as it’s basis for comparisons and default settings. Other Intelligent Wizards are also available: They can auto-detect mis-configurations and propose fixes They use strong security defaults and it has configuration entry checks. It also uses device and interface specific defaults as well. Use the SDM wizards to provide a quick deployment. A suggested work-flow exists at the lower part of the screens to guide un-trained users through a suggestive process. Begin with configuring LAN -> WAN -> Firewall -> VPN ->finish with a Security Audit.
• SDM is great for advanced users too. They can quickly fine-tune configurations (for example use the ACL editor) or diagnose problems (for example monitor VPN tunnel quality) SDM discovers the existing LAN and WAN interfaces (for example T1, Serial, and DSL). The wizard will present interface specific values and also has online help for that interface.
• VoIP packets consist of two components, the voice samples and the IP+UDP+RTP headers. While the voice samples will be compressed by the DSPs and could vary in size based on the codec used, the IP+UDP+RTP headers are constantly 40 bytes. When compared to the 20 bytes of voice samples in a default G.729 call, the headers makeup a considerable amount of overhead. Using cRTP, the headers can be compressed down to 2-4 bytes. This can offer significant VoIP bandwidth savings. For example, a default G.729 VoIP will consume 24Kb without cRTP, but only 12Kb with cRTP enabled.
• NetFlow v9 Export Format NetFlow Version 9 is a new flexible and extensible format for exporting IPflow information from Cisco routers and switches, providing rapid support for IP accounting of Cisco technologies. New features that leverage NetFlow v9 include MPLS Aware NetFlow, NetFlow multicast and NetFlow BGP NextHop. The NetFlow Version 9 extensible format is being recognized as a new IETF standard for exporting flow information from IP devices. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5187/products_feature_guide09186a008017d10f.html SAA – MPLS/VPN Path Jitter Service Assurance Agent (SAA) provides active monitoring, network health, trouble shooting and network performance verification to improve network reliability. The VRF Path Jitter probe allows the user to measure round trip time, jitter and packet loss for a number of hops along a path. The per VRF or MPLS VPN operation feature allows SAA probe traffic to be forwarded using the MPLS VPN VRF routing table. Customers using this feature will create probes on PE routers utilizing MPLS VPN or Multi-VRF CE enabled devices. SAA is also used for the assessment of network capabilities before new network deployments. SAA is now available for performance, class of service and SLA monitoring for Layer 3 MPLS/VPN networks. MPLS/VPN aware SAA actively monitors, forwards packets within VPN routing tables for per customer or per VPN network performance monitoring.

• Notes: * SSH is included in 5 packages: Adv Security, SP Services, Adv IP Services, Enterprise Services, and Adv Enterprise Services. SSH + VPN/IPSec in included in 3 of those 5 images: Adv Security, Adv IP Services and Adv Enterprise Services. Although 3DES is used in SSH connections, it does not automatically apply to overall traffic - i.e. IPsec/VPN is still required for the inclusion of 3DES for overall traffic encryption, which comes with "Advanced" packages. Logical Upsell theory Logical naming Unbundles security and voice features for entry level without other feature burdens Intentional price increases to support legacy protocols (Enterprise Base) upward feature inheritance among feature sets Relevance - Create relevant feature set categories for today’s businesses and deployment / applications - NOT based purely on Cisco Router applications or historic LAN protocol feature set bias
