  • 3. 2009 Alabama PMI Symposium Call for Presentations Packet Invitation Letter October 28th, 2008 Dear Sir or Madam: The Project Management Institute Alabama Chapters invites you to submit a proposal to present at the 2009 PMI Symposium, “Alabama Horizons: The Project Management Kaleidoscope” on March 9th and 10th, 2009 at the Hilton Perimeter Park in Birmingham, AL. This is our first annual symposium and we are expecting up to 200 project management professionals attending a full day workshop on Monday and a full day of presentations focused on "Tools for Leadership: Innovation, Inspiration & Excellence!" on Tuesday. This is a joint partnership between the Birmingham, Montgomery, and Huntsville PMI Chapters. Many of our attendees hold influential Project and Program Management positions within Information Technology, Financial, and Consulting corporations. The 2 day event will include a full day workshop on Monday, March 9th, a reception and Monday evening, and a full day of presentations on Tuesday, March 10th. The Alabama PMI Symposium provides a platform for the best minds in academia and industry to share the latest developments and advancements made in the field of project, program and portfolio management. We are now requesting proposals from distinguished academics and seasoned practitioners to present at the Symposium. We are looking for presentations related to the Symposium theme of “Advancing the Profession: Energize, Inspire, Motivate” which can be a variety of topics relevant to the future of Project Management profession and we invite you to submit a proposal with the completed speaker information form provided in this packet. Any questions regarding the Symposium or final submission of the Speaker application can be forwarded to PMITBSymposium@gmail.com. Be sure to submit your proposal before December 31, 2008 to be considered to speak this year. Once all proposals are in, the Committee will review and communicate the selected presenters by January 15, 2009. We are looking forward to your participation in this year’s Symposium.   • 4. 2009 Alabama PMI Symposium Call for Presentations Packet Alabama PMI Symposium Offerings  The Symposium is a great opportunity to present to a large and experienced group of Project, Program & Portfolio Managers as well as other speakers. A majority of the chapter membership works in major IT, Financial and Health Services organizations across the state of Alabama.  There is no charge or sponsorship fee to present at the Alabama PMI Symposium. Alabama PMI will not pay speakers a speaker fee or honorarium, however, reimbursement of expenses is negotiable (depending on travel distance and logistics).  Promotion of speaker and presentation in PMI Symposium Marketing Campaign  Access to chapter conducted feedback survey that will help the speakers evaluate their presentations.  Based on attendee feedback at the Symposium, potential future invitations to present at the PMI Alabama Monthly Dinner Meetings or for future one day workshops.  Provide reference and recommendations to other PMI Chapters for Dinner Meetings/Professional Development Days/Symposiums.  Personal Development Units (PDU) awarded for presenting on project management topics qualifying under category 2C as documented in the PMI Continuing Certification Requirements handbook. Alabama PMI Expectations  The presentation must be strictly educational and align with the theme, “Advancing the Profession!” Note: The presentation cannot be a sales pitch of any kind, nor should it be centered on any specific tool(s). Some Suggested Topic Areas (Not a fixed list):  Inspiring/Managing/Motivating Teams  Basic or Advanced Topics on Client Management, Risk Management, Critical Path, Time & Priority Management, Managing Vendors & Contracts, Communication Skills or any PMBOK Knowledge Area  Team Building, Building Relationships, Establishing and Fostering Trust  Offshoring, Managing Global or Virtual Teams  Leadership Skills  Empowering Your Team  Coaching/Mentoring Skills  The presentation must be a minimum of 1 hour in duration inclusive of Q&A Session, but may not exceed 90 minutes.  The proposal should clearly state what the attendees would gain by attending the presentation with emphasis on practical application of the knowledge gained. 2009pmisymposiumcallforpresentatio4342.do Page 4 of 8 c

  • 6. 2009 Alabama PMI Symposium Call for Presentations Packet Speaker Agreement & Disclosure Alabama PMI Symposium agrees to: 1. Promote the speaker’s session (if selected from submission) in event promotion as determined by the Symposium committee. This may include event flyers, Symposium brochures, Symposium web page, emails and chapter newsletters 2. Invitation to attend the networking reception and Key Note on Monday evening 3. Provide continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments during the Tuesday sessions 4. Provide audio-visual equipment for the session, including: a. LCD Projector b. Large Projection Screen c. Wired Lavaliere Microphone d. Podium 5. Provide the speaker a summary of the session feedback 6. Provide attendees with a cd containing all presentation material received by the due date in pdf format Speaker agrees to: 1. Arrive at the designated meeting room for the Symposium session at least one hour prior to the designated start time 2. Present materials and topics as outlined in the presentation proposal 3. Prepare a 100% educational (0% sales pitch) presentation to fill the entire designated session time including an optional audience question and answer period (A slide or mention of your contact information, company name and website at the end is acceptable) 4. Deliver a presentation that has not been delivered at a Alabama PMI conference previously (Minimal overlap is acceptable, but our intent is to have sessions that have not been presented previously) 5. Present on a topic aligned with the Symposium theme 6. Be prepared to present their materials in the time allotted. 7. Start and end presentation on time 8. Provide their own laptop (if required for presentation) 9. Allow their name, topic and materials to be distributed and posted online in pdf format 10. Submit an electronic copy of their final presentation material by midnight on Saturday, January 31, 2009 (CST) 11. Provide outlines, speaker bio, photo and any handout requirements in a timely fashion as requested 12. Confirm that you will not violate any copyright interest or proprietary and/or personal rights of others 13. Cancel only in the event of an emergency Cancellation Policy Speaker understands that Alabama PMI will be spending a significant amount of money to promote the speaker and their session. If the speaker cancels due to an emergency, Alabama PMI will provide a backup speaker for the session. The speaker will not be permitted to provide a substitute for the session.   • 7. 2009 Alabama PMI Symposium Call for Presentations Packet Speaker Release & Authorization I understand that the Alabama PMI chapter may, at its sole discretion, produce presentations or publications based on portions of the seminar and/or video or audio recordings or photographs of that seminar, and that such presentations or publications may appear in print, online, or in any manner or media, including but not limited to promotional or marketing materials for future Alabama PMI chapter owned or managed events. Any materials created for the purpose of conducting the session shall continue to be owned by me or my employer and I or my employer will continue to be the copyright holder for said material. I do, however, grant a non-exclusive unrestricted worldwide perpetual license to Alabama PMI chapters to use the recorded audio or video and handout or slide materials from the specific session(s) I conduct or participate in at the “2009 Alabama PMI Symposium”. I understand that I will not be compensated monetarily for this license. I hereby warrant and represent that I have the right to enter into this agreement and to grant the rights granted to Alabama PMI chapter herein.
